Mount Saint Mary Sweeps Yeshiva

Morris fans 13 in game one victory

Chester, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team returned to Skyline Conference play Friday morning, posting an 11-0 and 10-1 sweep of visiting Yeshiva. Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) earned her second win of the season in the circle, striking out 13 in the opener.
 
Friday's sweep improves Mount Saint Mary to 6-11 overall on the season and to 5-1 in Skyline Conference play, while Yeshiva falls to 0-11 overall and 0-4 in league action.
 
Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 11 – Yeshiva 0 (F/5)
How It Happened
  • Mount Saint Mary scored 10 of its 11 runs in the first two innings, plating five runs each in both the first and second frames.
  • Mount Saint Mary recorded just one hit in the first inning, getting run scoring walks from Samantha Bendig (Tampa, Fla.), Riley Norwood (East Haven, Conn.) and Sophia Reed (Boonton, N.J.) and RBI hit by pitches from Nicole Rosner (Brewster, N.Y.) and Melanie McClinchey (Medford, N.Y.).
  • In the five-run second inning Norwood tripled home two runs with Sofia Gannon (East Patchogue, N.Y.) singling home Norwood and Reed chasing Gannon home with a double.
  • Mount Saint Mary closed out the scoring in the game in the home half of the fourth when Victoria Santomauro (Eastchester, N.Y.) delivered Christina Fiumara (New Windsor, N.Y.) with a two-out double.
  • Yeshiva did not have a baserunner in the game until the top of the fifth when they recorded each of their two hits in the contest.
  • Mount Saint Mary outhit Yeshiva in the opener 11-2.
 
For The Knights
  • Gannon went 2-for-3 in the game with a run and an RBI.
  • Laura Dentato (Farmingdale, N.Y.) recorded a hit and scored twice.
  • Norwood went 1-for-1 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBI.
  • Alicia Killeen (Nesconset, N.Y.), Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.), Rosner, Reed and Fiumara all finished with a hit and a run scored with Reed driving in two runs.
  • Morris was dominant for the Knights, firing a complete game and facing just two batters over the minimum. She allowed only two infield singles and struck out a career-high 13 batters in moving to 2-5 on the season.
 
Game 2: Mount Saint Mary 10 – Yeshiva 1 (F/5)
How It Happened
  • After falling behind 1-0 after a half inning, Mount Saint Mary plated nine runs in the bottom of the first on just one hit.
  • Gannon drove in two runs in the inning with a walk and a single.
  • Reed delivered two runs, drawing a pair of bases loaded walks for the Knights.
  • Reed drove in her third run of the game and closed out the scoring in the contest with a solo home run in the home half of fourth.
  • Mount Saint Mary recorded just five hits in the contest, but drew 11 walks in the contest.
 
For The Knights
  • Gannon finished game two 2-for-2 with a double, a run and two RBI.
  • Reed went 1-for-1 with the home run, run scored and three RBI.
  • Dylan Lane (Red Hook, N.Y.) scored a run and drew two walks.
  • Jessica Ehret (Broad Channel, N.Y.) drew a walk and scored two runs.
  • Christen Hansen (Cypress, Calif.) picked up the win and moved to 4-2 on the season. She allowed only two hits and struck out nine Maccabees.

  • Mount Saint Mary plays host to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday afternoon.
  • Yeshiva travels to Purchase on Sunday.
