Knights Tripped Up By Maritime

Shalvey, Ward post two points apiece

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team suffered its second straight conference loss Tuesday night following a 22-5 defeat at the hands of Maritime. Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) and Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) each finished with two points for the Mount.
 
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 6-3 overall on the season and to 0-2 in Skyline Conference play, while Maritime improves to 9-0 overall and a 3-0 in conference action.
 
How It Happened
  • Shalvey got the Knights on the board first, potting her 27th goal of the season at the 11:25 mark of the opening period.
  • After Maritime knotted the score at 1-1 just under two minutes later, Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) put the Knights back in front at the 6:58 mark of the first quarter, giving the Mount a 2-1 advantage.
  • Following the Ferrucci goal, the Privateers scored 10 straight goals to open an 11-4 advantage on a Tori Gay marker at the 11:27 mark of the second frame.
  • The Mount got back on the board with an Ashley Giorgi (Danbury, Conn.) tally with just under seven minutes left before halftime, but Maritime closed the first half with the final three tallies to carry a 14-3 lead into the break.
  • Maritime came out of the intermission and potted the first five goals of the third quarter to spread its lead to 19-3.
  • Mount Saint Mary tallied two fourth period goals with Ward scoring her 11th of the season with 12:41 left to play and Shalvey scoring her second of the game with 7:20 remaining in the contest.
 
For The Knights
  • Shalvey moved her team lead in goals to 28 and has multiple goals in each of the Mount's first nine games of the season.
  • Ward scored once and assisted on a goal, giving her a team-high 10 helpers on the season. She added a pair of groundballs on the night.
  • Ferrucci and Giorgi each scored and collected a groundball.
  • Kaitlyn DeLorenzo (Southington, Conn.) scooped a pair of groundballs and caused a turnover.
  • Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) won a team-high three draw controls and added a caused turnover.
  • Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) made five saves and picked up two groundballs in 33:36 played in goal.
  • Mary Massaro (Watertown, Conn.) stopped four shots in 26:24 worth of action.
 
For The Privateers
  • Gabrielle Nicolosi scored five goals and assisted on two others to go along with two groundballs and a caused turnover.
  • Tori Gay potted five goals, scooped three groundballs, caused two turnovers and won six draw controls.
  • Jenna Lesiewicz scored four times and won nine draw controls.
  • Avery Jillson Neuwirth scored two goals and provided five assists.
  • Liz Pamaro earned the win in goal with a pair of saves.
