Women’s Lacrosse Falls To USMMA

Shalvey totals two points

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team returned home on Wednesday night and suffered a 21-2 Skyline Conference loss to the visiting United States Merchant Marine Academy. Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) closed the night with two points for the Mount.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 8-6 overall on the season and to 1-5 in conference play. USMMA wins its seventh straight contest and improves to 10-2 on the year and a perfect 6-0 in conference play.
 
How It Happened
  • The Mariners scored the first seven goals of the game over the opening 5:57 of the game.
  • Mount Saint Mary scored on its only shot of the first half, Shalvey's 41st goal of the season, at the 7:53 mark of the first quarter.
  • USMMA tallied the final two goals of the first period and the only five goals of the second frame to carry a 14-1 lead into the intermission.
  • Starting with the last two goals of the first quarter, USMMA ran off 13 straight tallies, including the only five in the third and the first goal of the fourth quarter to move in front 20-1 with 12:52 left in regulation.
  • Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) stopped the run with her 21st goal of the season at the 11:37 mark of the fourth quarter off a feed from Shalvey.

  • Shalvey finished the night with a goal and an assist to improves her team leading in goals to 41 and points to 55.
  • Ward added a groundball and a draw control to her marker.
  • Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) won six draw controls and collected a groundball.
  • Maggie Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) caused two turnovers and picked up a groundball.
  • Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) won two draws and caused a turnover.
  • Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) made eight saves in goal and collected a team-high three groundballs in 34:27 worth of work.
  • Mary Massaro (Watertown, Conn.) finished with three stops in just over 25 minutes of action.
 
For The Mariners
  • Jessie Wohner closed a big night with nine points on the strength of five goals and four assists.
  • Kaitlyn Latchaw scored twice and assisted on four goals to go along with three groundballs.
  • Jaqui Sheedy scored three times and posted four points, adding six draw controls.
  • Julia Coughlin and Lauren Jablonowski each finished with two goals and an assist.
  • Maddie Schmidt won six draws, caused four turnovers and grabbed four groundballs.
  • Hope Germanakos and Jessica Gamsjager split in the game in goal and neither was forced to make a save.
