Staten Island, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team suffered a pair of shutout losses on the road at New York University Tuesday, falling 2-0 and 3-0 to the Violets.
Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.) finished game one with half of the team's four hits.
Tuesday's sweep drops Mount Saint Mary to 15-14 overall on the season, while NYU improves to 15-20.
Game 1: NYU 2 – Mount Saint Mary 0
How It Happened
- The two teams combined for just seven hits in the opener, with the Mount outhitting NYU 4-3.
- The Violets broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth with the only two runs of the game.
- Hannah Lee laced a one-out double in the sixth that was immediately followed by a two-run home run off the bat of Erin Scott.
- Mount Saint Mary got the tying run to the plate in the seventh following a Samantha Bendig (Tampa, Fla.) leadoff single, but a double play and groundout ended the threat.
- Mount Saint Mary advanced a runner into scoring position just twice in the contest.
For The Knights
- Ferara singled twice in three at-bats in game one.
- Bendig and Sofia Gannon (East Patchogue, N.Y.) accounted for the Knights' other two hits in the game.
- Jenna Cedeno (Staten Island, N.Y.) was the Mount's only other base runner, reaching after getting hit with a pitch.
- Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) suffered the tough luck loss, working a complete game. She allowed the two runs on just three hits, striking out four and walking four.
Game 2: NYU 3 – Mount Saint Mary 0
How It Happened
- Mount Saint Mary was limited to just one hit in game two, a leadoff single from Nicole Rosner (Brewster, N.Y.) in the top of the fourth inning.
- NYU got all the scoring it would need in the game in its first at bat following a run scoring groundout from Kalena Paredes.
- The lead grew to the final 3-0 advantage in the third on another run scoring groundout from Scott before Lee scored following an error.
- Mount Saint Mary drew four walks in the contest and was hit with two pitches but was unable to push across a run.
For The Knights
- Rosner's single was the only hit for the Mount in the game.
- Ferara reached twice in the contest via walk.
- Alicia Killeen (Nesconset, N.Y.) and Gannon each drew a walk.
- Cedeno and Melanie McClinchey (Medford, N.Y.) were each hit with a pitch.
- Christen Hansen (Cypress, Calif), who was named the Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Week Tuesday morning, fell to 8-3 on the season following the hard luck decision. She worked a complete game, allowing two earned runs on six hits.

- Mount Saint Mary returns to Skyline Conference play on Friday when it plays host to Old Westbury.
- NYU is off until May 3 when it travels to Hunter.
