Knights Split Senior Day Set With Saint Elizabeth

Hansen wins eighth game in opener

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team continued a 14-game home stand Saturday with a non-conference split with Saint Elizabeth. Christen Hansen (Cypress, Calif.) earned her eighth win in a 5-0 game won victory and Samantha Bendig (Tampa, Fla.) homered in a 7-4 game two defeat.
 
The Mount's win in game won was its ninth straight and the split moves Mount Saint Mary to 13-12 overall on the season. Saint Elizabeth pushes its overall record to 12-7.

How It Happened
  • Mount Saint Mary got all the scoring it would need in the opener with four runs in its first at-bat.
  • Jenna Cendeno (Staten Island, N.Y.) pushed across Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.) with the game's first run with a single.
  • Melanie McClinchey (Medford, N.Y.) forced home a run after getting hit with the bases loaded and Victoria Santomauro (Eastchester, N.Y.) drove in Sofia Gannon (East Patchogue, N.Y.) and Nicole Rosner (Brewster, N.Y.) with a two-out double.
  • The only other run to score came home in the home half of the third when Rosner crossed following a two-out error.
 
For The Knights
  • Rosner finished the opener 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
  • Santomauro wrapped up the win 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
  • Alicia Killeen (Nesconset, N.Y.) and Cedeno each finished with a hit with Cendeno scoring a run and driving in another.
  • Ferara and Gannon each finished with a run scored.
  • Hansen moved to 8-2 on the season with 6.2 innings of shutout work. She allowed four singles and struck out seven.
  • Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) recorded the final out via strikeout to complete the shutout.
 
Game 2: Saint Elizabeth 7 – Mount Saint Mary 4
  • Mount Saint Mary had another strong first inning in game two, plating four more runs in its first at-bat.
  • Bendig opened the scoring with a two-run home run, her second of the season, to get the Knights out in front 2-0.
  • Santomauro drove in her third run of the game with a single and McClinchey came home with fourth run on an error.
  • The Eagles for on the board for the first time on the day in the second, plating five runs on four hits and a pair of errors.
  • Alyssa Hampton doubled home a pair of runs in the inning with Mercedes Rivera and Jennifer Tinger each driving in runs with two-out base hits.
  • The lead grew to the final 7-4 advantage in the seventh when the Eagles got a pair of run scoring groundouts.
  • Mount Saint Mary put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh but was unable to push across a run.
 
For The Knights
  • Laura Dentato (Farmingdale, N.Y.) finished the contest 2-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Bendig closed game two 2-for-4 with a home run, run scored and two RBI.
  • Santomauro picked up two more hits and drove in a run.
  • Rosner doubled and scored a run.
  • McClinchey recorded a hit and scored a run.
  • Rosner suffered the loss in the circle after allowing just two earned runs and fanning four in 6.0 innings of work.
  • Morris worked an inning, allowing a run and striking out one.
 
What's Next
  • Mount Saint Mary returns to Skyline Conference play on Sunday when it hosts St. Joseph's-L.I.
  • Saint Elizabeth travels to Cedar Crest on Wednesday.
