Knights Cruise Past Purchase

Nine different Knights finish with a point

Purchase, N.Y. – Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) totaled eight points and was one of nine different Knights to record a point on Friday night as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team picked up its first league win of the season with an impressive 20-1 road victory at Purchase.
 
Friday's win improves Mount Saint Mary 8-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while Purchase falls to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in conference competition.
 
How It Happened
  • Mount Saint Mary did not allow a goal until the fourth quarter and opened a 6-0 lead after the first period, a 13-0 advantage a halftime and a 16-0 edge through three quarters.
  • Erica Schmidgall (North Massapequa, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Mount just 47 seconds into the contest and went on to score two goals in the first period to go along with an assist.
  • Ashley Giorgi (Danbury, Conn.) opened the scoring in the second stanza with her 21st goal of the season.
  • Ward finished the second stanza with three goals and an assist as the Knights built a commanding 13-0 lead through 30 minutes.
  • Ward potted her fourth goal of the game 1:59 into the third quarter to give the Mount a 14-0 lead with Giorgi and Annie Dolan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) adding third quarter goals for the Knights.
  • Dolan scored her second straight goal and third of the game at the 12:56 mark of the fourth period to give the Knights a 17-0 advantage.
  • Purchase finally got onto the board at the 10:21 mark of the final frame with Sigrid Cassell scoring with the player-advantage for the Panthers.
  • Maggie Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) tallied her first goal of the season with 7:01 left to play before Ward and Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored in the final 5:13 to close out the scoring in the game.
 
For The Knights
  • Ward finished the night with five goals and three assists, moving her team-high assists total to 17 and her point total to 38. She finished off a strong all-around game with two groundballs and three caused turnovers.
  • Ferrucci closed the victory with seven points on the strength of five goals and a pair of helpers. Ferrucci contributed two groundballs, two caused turnovers and four draw controls for the Knights.
  • Schmidgall wrapped up the night with three goals and two assists.
  • Dolan closed out a four-point night with a hat trick and an assist. Dolan added two groundballs, two draws and a caused turnover.
  • Shalvey and Kathryn McQuillan (Baldwin, N.Y.) each finished with three assists. Shalvey added three groundballs and a caused turnover.
  • Giorgi scored twice.
  • Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored a goal collected three groundballs and won seven draw controls.
  • Horan scored her first goal as a Knight and secured a pair of groundballs.
  • Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) made the start in goal, earning the win with four saves in 30 minutes of action.
 
For The Panthers
  • Cassell scored the team's lone goal, won two draws and picked up two groundballs.
  • Lauren Pudelka won five draw controls and caused a turnover.
  • Casandra Schmoger finished with six saves in goal in 45:00 of work.
 
Game Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary closed the night with a 33-9 advantage in shots, including a 26-5 edge in shots on goal.
  • Mount Saint Mary posted a 26-10 advantage in groundballs.
