Knights Drop Skyline Conference Set At St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Marzigliano homers, Lutinski drives in three in game two

Patchogue, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team continued Skyline Conference play Saturday, dropping a road doubleheader at St. Joseph's-L.I. by scores of 5-0 and 14-9. Dominick Marzigliano (Highland Mills, N.Y.) homered in game two and Ryan Lutinski (Easton, Conn.) drove in three runs in the second contest for the Knights.
 
Saturday's results drop Mount Saint Mary back to the .500 mark overall at 8-8 and to 4-2 in Skyline Conference play. St. Joseph's-L.I. improves to 7-4 overall and a perfect 6-0 in conference competition.

How It Happened
  • St. Joseph's opened the scoring early with two runs in the bottom of the first and added an insurance run in the fourth and two more tallies in the fifth to close out the scoring.
  • Phil Krpata scored what proved to the be the deciding run on an error in the first before John Lynch drove in the second run with a sacrifice fly.
  • John Thatcher singled home a run in the fourth ahead of run scoring base hits from Lynch and Nick Vicino in two-run fifth.
  • Mount Saint Mary was outhit 12-2 in the opener.
 
For The Knights
  • Marzigliano and Luke Barone (Monroe, N.Y.) each singled in the opener for the Mount.
  • Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.) drew a pair of walks.
  • Mike Scotto (Putnam, N.Y.) suffered the loss on the mound, falling to 1-1 on the season. He worked 4.1 innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out two.
  • Michael Di Tullio (Montgomery, N.Y.) worked 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, striking out one.

How It Happened
  • Mount Saint Mary got off to a quick start in game two, scoring once in the first and two more times in the second to open an early 3-0 advantage.
  • Marzigliano got the Mount on the board with a home run to right in the first.
  • The Knights strung together three hits in the second and expanded their lead on an RBI single from Robert Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) and a run scoring groundout from Cullen Roper (Stratford, Conn.).
  • St. Joseph's rallied to tie the score with three runs in the second before the two side traded runs in the third and traded three-run innings in the fifth.
  • Brandon Nolasco (Chester, N.Y.) put the Mount back in front 4-3 with a sacrifice fly in the third.
  • After the Golden Eagles answered in the home half of the inning to knot the score at 4-4, the Mount plated three runs in the fifth to open a 7-4 advantage.
  • Lutinski drove in a pair of runs with a double and then was chased home on a two-out double from Devin Tait (Staten Island, N.Y.).
  • St. Joseph's answered again in the home half of the fifth, knotting the score at 7-7 on a two-run home run from Charles Rainone with one-out in the inning.
  • The Golden Eagles broke the tie with six runs in the sixth and another tally in the eighth to open a 14-7 advantage.
  • Rainone was in the middle of the big sixth with a run scoring base hit and later scored the team's final run on a wild pitch in the eighth.
  • Mount Saint Mary got two runs closer in its final at-bat with Lutinski driving in his third run of the game with a single and Frank Signorelli (Staten Island, N.Y.) delivering Shane Finch (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) with a sacrifice fly to finish off the scoring in the game.
  • There were 32 combined hits in the contest with the Mount recording 17 safeties.
 
For The Knights
  • Marzigliano went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. He connected on his second home run of the season and stole a base.
  • Tait finished up game two 3-for-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI.
  • Lutinski went 3-or-5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI.
  • Liam Merlin (Reading, Mass.) recorded two hits and scored a run.
  • Finch and Michael DiGiovanni (Shirley, N.Y.) each collected a hit an scored a run.
  • Liam Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) made the start and worked 4.1 innings and striking out three.
  • Ryan Lockhart (Monroe Township, N.J.) suffered the loss in relief, allowing three earned runs in an inning of work.
 
What's Next
  • Mount Saint Mary hosts Farmingdale State in a league doubleheader on Monday starting at 1:00 p.m.
  • St. Joseph's hosts Yeshiva on Sunday.
