Knights Suffer Skyline Setback At St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Shalvey nets hat trick

Patchogue, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team returned to Skyline Conference play Tuesday evening and was dealt a tough 9-6 road loss at St. Joseph's-L.I. Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) scored three times for the Knights with Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) winning three draw controls.
 
Tuesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 7-5 overall and 0-4 in Skyline Conference play. St. Joseph's improves to 3-6 overall and 2-3 against conference rivals.
 
How It Happened
  • The Golden Eagles scored the first four goals of the game, outscoring the Mount 2-0 in the first period and tallying the first two goals of the second frame.
  • Mount Saint Mary got on the board with its first goal of the game at the 5:54 mark of the second quarter with Shalvely potting her 38th goal of the season.
  • The Golden Eagles responded with a Dierdre Carney markers with 61 seconds left before halftime to carry a 5-1 advantage into the intermission.
  • Mount Saint Mary came out of the break and scored the first two goals of the third frame to cut its disadvantage to 5-3.
  • Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored with the player-advantage at the 12:35 mark of the third period ahead of Shalvey's second of the game with 7:40 left in the period.
  • The Golden Eagles countered with the final two goals of the third quarter, a goal from Emily O'Mara and a marker from Courtney Donato, to spread their lead back to 7-3 with 15 minutes left to play.
  • The two teams alternated five goals in the final stanza, with the Mount never getting closer than the final three-goal disadvantage.
  • Ashley Giorgi (Danbury, Conn.) scored twice in the final period with Shalvey adding her 40th goal of the season with just under two minutes left to play.
 
For The Knights
  • Shalvey scored half of the team's six goals in the game and pushed her team lead in markers to 40 and points to 50. She added two groundballs for the Knights in the contest.
  • Ward scored her 16th goal of the season and moved her season point total to 30.
  • Giorgi scored her 19th and 20th goals of the campaign.
  • Lindsay tied for the team lead in draw controls with three and led the Knights with three caused turnovers on the night.
  • Maggie Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) also won three draws and collected a pair of groundballs.
  • Kate Crooker (Boonton, N.J.) forced a pair of turnovers and scooped two groundballs for the Mount.
  • Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) suffered the hard luck loss in goal with eight saves and a groundball.
 
For The Golden Eagles
  • O'Mara finished with a hat trick and added four groundballs and two draw controls.
  • Jamie Trowbridge scored three times and won a game-high six draw controls.
  • Carney scored once and assisted on two goals.
  • Grace Emy rounded out the win with four caused turnovers and three groundballs.
  • Jillian Hummel turned aside 14 Mount Saint Mary shots, adding three groundballs.

  • St. Joseph's-L.I. finished with a slim 26-25 advantage in shots.
  • The Golden Eagles finished with a 21-14 edge in groundballs.
