Baseball Returns To Action Against New Paltz, Bard

Knights searching for first win of season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team is scheduled to play four games this weekend when it hosts New Paltz on Saturday and travels to Bard for a non-conference set on Sunday. The Knights and Hawks are scheduled to get underway at 11:00 a.m. at Dutchess Stadium while Sunday's road doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary enters the weekend at 0-3, but hasn't played since falling to New Paltz 7-3 on February 20 to close out the first weekend of the season.
 
Through three contests, Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.) is hitting .625 in eight at-bats, ripping two doubles and driving in four runs. He leads the team in hits with five and is slugging .875 in the early part of 2022.
 
11 different pitchers have made an appearance for the Mount through three games with Robert Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) working a team-high 6.0 innings. Ryan Lockhart (Monroe Township, N.J.) leads the staff with four strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work, while John Morehead (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and Michael DiGiovanni (Shirley, N.Y.) have worked scoreless innings of relief.
 
A Look At New Paltz: The Hawks hold a 2-4 record entering Saturday with both wins coming against the Mount.
 
New Paltz is hitting .255 as a team through six games led by a .360 average from Dean Stalzer who has driven in 11 runs.
 
The Hawks' pitching staff is working to a 6.18 earned run average with Billy Moeller holding a 3.60 ERA with 14 punchouts in 10 innings pitched.
 
Scouting Bard: The Raptors split a doubleheader with Rutgers-Newark on February 27 and enter a set with the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday at 1-1.
 
Bard hit .329 in its season opening set with Jordan Myers going 6-for-10 with four runs and a pair of RBI. Jake Stacey scored six times in the team's first two games and drove in two runs.
 
Aidan Risse holds the Raptors' lone win on the season, working 4.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts.
 
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary is scheduled to be back in action again on March 9 at home against Albertus Magnus.
