Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team is set for another busy weekend of Skyline Conference action when it travels to St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday and hosts Farmingdale State on Sunday. Live Stats and Video will be available for both doubleheaders over the weekend.
At A Glance: The Knights swept league sets from St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and Purchase last week and enter Saturday's twin bill with an 8-6 overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark against league rivals.
Three Knights will begin the weekend hitting better than .300 on the season, led by a .382 mark from
Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.). Barnes leads the Mount with 13 hits and nine RBI while sporting a .500 slugging percentage and a .436 on-base percentage.
Robert Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) paces the Mount with five doubles and is hitting .364 over 22 at-bats. Brust is slugging .591 and is good for a .462 on-base percentage.
Dominick Marzigliano (Highland Mills, N.Y.) checks in with a .308 batting average and leads the team with eight runs scored. He has driven in six runs and holds a .391 on-base percentage and leads the team with nine stolen bases in as many attempts.
Matthew Borriello (Montgomery, N.Y.) anchors the pitching staff with a 2-1 record over five starts. He has worked a team-high 24.0 innings and is pitching to a 1.88 earned run average and holding opponents to just a .213 batting average.
Liam Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) and
John Morehead (Highland Mills, N.Y.) both have won two games with Horan striking out 17 in 19.0 innings of work and Morehead punching out 10 opponents in 9.2 innings.
Scouting St. Joseph's-L.I.: The Golden Eagles enter Saturday's set at 5-4 overall and 4-0 in conference play. St. Joseph's swept USMMA and Manhattanville to complete a perfect conference weekend last week.
John Lynch is hitting a robust .611 over 18 at-bats to start the season and has driven in seven runs for the Golden Eagles to go along with six runs scored. Paul Gugliuzzo is batting .423 over 26 at-bats and Ryan Decoursey checks in with a .400 batting average with three home runs and a team-high 11 RBI.
Phil Krpata paces the Golden Eagles with 11 runs scored and has recorded one of the team's six home runs over the first nine games of the season. Joe Sanguedolce is a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases and is hitting .375 in 32 at-bats.
Anthony Cinquemani holds a 2-0 record on the mound over 9.1 innings pitched, working to a 4.82 earned run average. Kevin Czeczotka has thrown a team-high 11.2 innings and fanned 12 for the Golden Eagles.
Recent History: Since the start of the 2008 campaign, the Knights and Golden Eagles have met 29 times with St. Joseph's holding the edge in the series 22-7. The Mount stopped a three-game skid to the Golden Eagles with a 5-1 victory on April 26 2021 in Newburgh.
A Look At Farmingdale State: The Rams will take on Manhattanville on Saturday before traveling to Newburgh and enter the weekend at 7-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Farmingdale State was swept by Maritime on Saturday to open league play before rebounding to take two from the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday.
Patrick Dallas has produced a .471 batting average over 17 at-bats to start the season, while Vincent Napolitano is hitting .320 with a team-high 16 hits, including six for extra bases, to go along with 10 runs scored and five RBI.
Richard Apollo, Jr. paces the squad with 12 runs scored through 15 games and joins Justin DiMartino and Jordan Lambert with a team-high seven RBI.
The pitching staff is led by Stephen Clancy who holds a 3-1 record along with a save in six appearances. He has worked 20.1 innings and struck out 24 while working to a 1.33 earned run average. Thomas Messina holds a 2-0 record and a 1.23 ERA over 14.2 innings, while Joe Marino has fanned a team-high 27 batters in 19.0 innings of work.
Recent History: The Knights and Rams have met 23 times since the start of 2008 season with Farmingdale State holding a 17-6 advantage in the series. The Knights are in search of their first win against the Rams since an 11-3 triumph in game two of a doubleheader on March 26, 2017.
