Knights Drop Road Doubleheader At Ramapo

Killeen goes 4-for-4 in opener

Mahwah, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team took to the road on Tuesday and suffered a non-conference doubleheader loss at Ramapo, falling 6-1 in the opener and 2-1 in eight innings in game two. Alicia Killeen (Nesconset, N.Y.) finished off game one a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate for the Knights.
 
Tuesday's results drop Mount Saint Mary to 1-8 overall on the season while Ramapo improves to 8-3 overall.

How It Happened
  • After a scoreless first inning, Ramapo opened the scoring with two runs in the home half of the second. Mahogany Wheeler and Marissa DiPaolo both scored on wild pitches to give the Roadrunners an early 2-0 lead.
  • Ramapo extended its lead to 3-0 in the third on a run scoring single from Katie Rygiel and opened a 6-0 lead with three more tallies in the fourth. Alexis Corra keyed the three-run fourth, driving in a pair of runs.
  • Mount Saint Mary got on the board with its only run of the game in the top of the fifth. Sophia Reed (Rockaway, N.J.) led off the frame with a double and was chased home on a one-out single from Killeen.
  • Hits in the game were even at 7-7 with Reed accounting for the only extra base hit of the contest.
 
For The Knights
  • Killeen finished with four singles, a stolen base and the lone RBI for the Knights out of the leadoff spot.
  • Reed doubled and scored the team's only run.
  • Nicole Rosner (Brewster, N.Y.) and Laura Dentato (Farmingdale, N.Y.) each picked up base hits for the Knights.
  • Rosner suffered the loss in the circle and fell to 0-3 on the season. She worked 3.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits.
  • Christen Hansen (Cypress, Calif.) worked 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one.
 
Game 2: Ramapo 2 – Mount Saint Mary 1 (F/8)
How It Happened
  • Ramapo scored in its first at bat of game two when Anna Messina scampered home on a wild pitch, the Roadrunners third run of the day on an errant offering.
  • Mount Saint Mary got the game even in the top of the third, stringing together three hits in the frame. Riley Norwood (East Haven, Conn.) led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a Melanie McClinchey (Medford, N.Y.) single. With two outs in the inning Samantha Bendig (Tampa, Fla.) drove in Norwood with a single with McClinchey cut down at the plate.
  • The game remained deadlocked through the seventh and after the Mount could not plate a run with a runner starting at second base, Ramapo got a steal of third from Jaclyn Monaco who scored the game winning run on a throwing miscue.
  • Ramapo outhit the Knights in game two 8-5.
 
For The Knights
  • Norwood went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
  • Jenna Cedeno (Staten Island, N.Y.) doubled for the Mount.
  • Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.), Bendig and McClinchey supplied the other three hits for the Knights with Bendig driving in her fifth run of the season.
  • Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) suffered the hard luck loss, firing a complete game, allowing just one earned run an striking out six.

  • Mount Saint Mary opens Skyline Conference play on Monday when it plays host to Yeshiva starting at 3:00 p.m.
