Baseball Suffers Road Loss At Bard

Goodwin records two hits, Horan strikes out five

Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end Sunday afternoon following an 8-4 road loss at Bard. Jack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) recorded two of the team's five hits in the game and Liam Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) struck out five on the mound.
 
Sunday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-6 overall on the season while Bard improves the .500 mark at 5-5 overall.
 
How It Happened
  • Bard broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with six runs on five hits with the Raptors also taking advantage of two errors. Alex Luscher drove in the first run of the game with a single and later scored on an error. Jared Toby delivered the big blow in the frame with a one-out, three-run home run.
  • Mount Saint Mary pushed across two runs in the top of the fifth frame to cut its deficit to four runs. The first three Knights reached safely in the inning with Anthony Franco (Franklin Square, N.Y.) delivering the first run with a groundout with Robert Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) following with the team's second run off of a throwing error.
  • Bard got a run back in the bottom of the fifth to grab a 7-2 advantage before the Knights got a run of their own in the top of the seventh. Goodwin laced a one-out triple for the Mount and later scored on a wild pitch to make the score 7-3.
  • The two teams each scored a run in their final at-bat. Frank Rybicki drove in Bard's final run with a one-out single before Cullen Roper (Stratford, Conn.) scored on an error in the ninth to close out the scoring in the game.
  • Mount Saint Mary was outhit in the game 11-5 and committed five errors.
 
For The Knights
  • Goodwin finished 2-for-5 with a triple and run scored.
  • Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.), Brandon Nolasco (Chester, N.Y.) and Brust all recorded base hits for the Knights with Nolasco adding two walks.
  • Roper, Luke Barone (Monroe, N.Y.) and Brust joined Goodwin with runs scored.
  • Horan suffered the loss and fell to 1-2 on the season. He worked 3.0 innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits while fanning five.
 
For The Raptors
  • Toby had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, walk, two runs scored and three RBI.
  • Jack Williamson finished up 3-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Jimmy Famularo recorded two hits and scored a run.
  • Luscher and Robert Aricola each finished with a hit and a run scored.
  • Aidan Risse earned the win on the mound, working 5.0 innings. He allowed two runs on two hits, striking out five.

  • Mount Saint Mary plays host to Baruch on Wednesday.
  • Bard opens Liberty League play on Saturday against RIT.
