Women’s Lacrosse Collects Fifth Straight Win

Ferrucci, Shalvey each score three times

Newburgh, N.Y. – Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) notched her seventh straight multiple goal game to open the season and Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) recorded a hat trick as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team pushed its winning streak to five games with an 11-9 non-conference victory over Marywood Friday afternoon.
 
With Friday's win, Mount Saint Mary improves to 6-1 overall on the season with Marywood dropping down to the .500 mark at 3-3 overall.
 
How It Happened
  • Erica Schmidgall (North Massapequa, N.Y.) got the Knights on the board early in the first period with her seventh tally of the contest.
  • Marywood answered with the next three tallies to open a 3-1 advantage before Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) potted her 10th of the season with 5:29 left in the opening period to bring the Knights back to within a goal.
  • Mount Saint Mary moved in front 4-3 following back-to-back goals from Shalvey and Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) to open the scoring in the second stanza.
  • From there the two teams would alternate five goals to head into the intermission even at 6-6. Ashley Giorgi (Danbury, Con..) gave the Mount a 6-5 lead with 6:33 left before the break before Olivia Stollsteimer tallied for the Pacers with 2:26 left in the quarter to even the score for the fifth time in the first half.
  • Mount Saint Mary outscored Marywood 3-1 in the third quarter, scoring the first three goals of the frame. Giorgi scored her second of the game sandwiched between two goals from Shalvey, giving the Mount a 9-6 lead.
  • Ashley Cunningham scored with the player advantage for the Pacers to finish off the scoring in the third and bring the visitors to within two tallies heading into the final stanza.
  • Mount Saint Mary moved its advantage to a game-high four goals with consecutive goals from Ferrucci in the middle stages of the quarter.
  • Emma Solomon answered with two goals for Marywood in the final 8:36, but a trio of saves from Mary Massaro (Watertown, Conn.) in the final 6:12 prevented Marywood from getting any closer.
For The Knights
  • Shalvey continued her blistering start to the season with three goals and four points, adding three groundballs and three caused turnovers.
  • Ferrucci netted a hat trick to support the offensive attack in the victory.
  • Giorgi scored twice for the Knights.
  • Schmidgall posted a goal and an assist in the victory.
  • Lindsay scored once and led the team with four draw controls.
  • Ward finished with a goal and a helper to go along with three draw controls.
  • Annie Dolan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) led the team with five groundballs.
  • Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) made the start and played the first three quarters, making 10 saves.
  • Massaro made four saves in the final frame, including the three important stops down the stretch.
 
For The Pacers
  • Solomon scored three times, adding six draws, three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
  • Alaina Brenneman scored twice and assisted on another goal, adding two draw controls and two groundballs.
  • Cunningham finished with a tally and four draw controls.
  • Emily Dyminski took the hard luck loss in goal, making 12 saves.
 
Game Statistics
  • Shots in the game were even at 28-28.
  • Groundballs went to the Knights 17-12.
  • Marywood controlled draw controls 15-9.
  • Mount Saint Mary finished 13-for-16 in clearing chances.

  • Mount Saint Mary is off until March 30 when it begins Skyline Conference play at home against Farmingdale State.
