Knights Score Second Straight Overtime Victory, Collect Third Straight Win

Shalvey nets five goals, including game winner

Newburgh, N.Y. – Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) scored the overtime winner for the second straight game and finished with six tallies as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team rallied for a 12-11 win over Ramapo in extra time Thursday night.
 
Thursday's win, the Mount's third straight, pushes it to 4-1 overall on the season, while Ramapo drops to 0-2 in the early going of the 2022 season.
 
How It Happened
  • Ramapo raced out to a 5-0 lead over the opening nine-and-a-half minutes, getting a pair of goals from Colleen Mason over the opening run.
  • Mount Saint Mary got on the board when Annie Dolan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) scored with 4:11 left in the opening stanza, a goal that started a three-goal run for the Knights to bring them to within 5-3 after 15 minutes.
  • Mount Saint Mary would not be able to pull even until a Carolyn Del Debbio (Plantsville, Conn.) tally capped another three-goal run with 4:30 left before halftime to even the score at 6-6.
  • Esme Espinosa pushed the Roadrunners back in front with 3:15 left before the break before Ashley Giorgi (Danbury, Conn.) brought the Knights even again with 2:13 left in the second to send the two teams into halftime tied at 7-7.
  • Ramapo scored two of the first three goals of the third frame before Shalvey scored three straight goals to push the Knights in front 11-9.
  • Shalvey gave the Mount its first lead with 2:06 left in the third and gave it its largest lead with 3:25 left in regulation.
  • Trailing by two goals late in regulation, Ramapo got tallies from Lauren Travaglini and Ella Shade in the final 1:49 of the fourth to send the game into overtime.
  • After winning the opening draw of the overtime period, Shalvey capped off a six-goal game with a free-position goal 1:06 into the extra frame.
 
For The Knights
  • Shalvey potted six goals, moving her team lead in tallies to 17 through five games. She rounded out the win with four groundballs.
  • Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) closed the contest with a goal and an assist to go along with three groundballs and a caused turnover.
  • Maggie Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) posted a caused turnover and a pair of groundballs.
  • Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) won six draw controls and scored a goal.
  • Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) won five draw controls and collected a groundball.
  • Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) picked up her fourth win in goal with 10 saves for the Knights.
 
For The Roadrunners
  • Four different players scored two goals for Ramapo, including Mason who finished with two tallies and an assist.
  • Travaglini scored twice and led all players with eight draw controls and five groundballs.
  • Kaylie Gresek scored twice and won three draw controls.
  • Leah Durkin potted a pair of goals and won two draws.
  • Alyssa Curto stopped seven shots in goal for the Roadrunners.
 
Game Statistics
  • Ramapo finished with a slim 28-25 advantage in shots.
  • Mount Saint Mary held a 15-13 edge in groundballs.
  • Draw controls went to the Roadrunners 16-11.
