Riverdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team scored a 94-47 road win at Yeshiva on Thursday night, earning its second eight-game winning streak of the season. Three Knights scored in double-figures in the game, including
Julia Lavin (Ledyard, Conn.) and
Kate Hughes (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) who each posted a career-high 13 points.
Thursday's victory pushes Mount Saint Mary to 20-3 on the season, its fourth straight 20-win season, and 18-1 in Skyline Conference play. Yeshiva drops to 7-14 overall and 5-14 in league play.
First Half
- After scoring 13 points and shooting under 30-percent from the floor in the opening stanza, Mount Saint Mary erupted for 33 points on 52.3-percent shooting in the second quarter.
- Mount Saint Mary fell behind 9-8 at the 6:36 mark of the first quarter before closing the period with five of the final six points to move in front for good in the game.
- Following the sluggish start, the Knights scored the first 14 points of the second stanza to bust open a 27-10 lead on a Charlotte Twohig (Syosset, N.Y.) triple at the 7:21 mark of the quarter.
- Mount Saint Mary built its lead to 35-15 on a Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) three-pointer before Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) closed a 19-0 run to end the half with a triple to send the Knights into the intermission with a 46-15 lead.
- Mount Saint Mary shot 42.1-percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and went 7-for-15 from three-point range.
- Nine different Knights found the scoring column in the first half, led by 11 points from Bojka who added three assists.
- Yeshiva was limited to 20.7-percent shooting before halftime, going 2-for-7 from three-point land.
- Daniella Bessler and Shai Rahamim led the Maccabees with five first half points apiece.
Second Half
- Bojka knocked down a pair of three-pointers over the opening two minutes of the third quarter as the Mount pushed its advantage to 56-20.
- The advantage ballooned to 66-25 on a Hughes conversion midway through the third period before a Cailean Nolan (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) canned a triple in the final minute of the third quarter to give the Knights a 78-31 lead with 10 minutes left to play.
- The Mount's advantage never fell below 44 points in the final stanza and got as large as 51 points, at 94-43, on a Shannon Phelan (Tappan, N.Y.) three-pointer with 1:37 left to play.
- The Knights shot 48.7-percent after halftime and hit on half of their 10 three-point attempts.
- Yeshiva improved to 36.7-percent in the second half.
- Hughes did all of her scoring after halftime, leading all players with 13 second half points.
- Lavin scored 10 of her career-high 13 points in the second half for the Mount.
For The Knights
- Bojka led the way for the Knights with 17 points, going 5-for-12 from the floor with three triples. She closed the night with five rebounds and a team-high four assists.
- Lavin closed the victory 4-for-5 from the floor with a three-pointer, adding six rebounds and three assists.
- Hughes went 6-for-10 from the floor in reaching her career-high scoring total and collected six rebounds.
- K. Smith contributed nine points, five rebounds and three assists.
- Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) led the Mount with nine rebounds and chipped in seven rebounds, three steals and two assists.
- Mount Saint Mary featured 13 different scorers in the contest.
For The Maccabees
- Bessler paced the Macs with 14 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists.
- Daniella Rothman produced a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds while blocking three shots.
Game Statistics
- Mount Saint Mary shot 45.5-percent overall and a 48-percent from three-point range, its second highest percentage from bonus distance on the season.
- Yeshiva was held to 28.8-percent shooting and a 4-for-14 effort from three-point range.
- Mount Saint Mary assisted on 25 of its 35 made field goals in the game.
- Mount Saint Mary held the advantage in points off of turnovers 32-9, second chance scoring 14-1 and points in the paint 38-18.
