Knights Falter Against Manhattanville

Sienke, Yearwood score 10 points apiece

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team closed a home-and-home with Manhattanville on Thursday night with a 79-57 loss. Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) and Chris Yearwood (Red Hook, N.Y.) paced the Mount's scoring attack with 10 points each.
 
Thursday's loss, the Mount's fourth straight, drops it to 6-17 overall on the season and to 4-11 in Skyline Conference play. Manhattanville improves to 15-7 overall and 12-3 against conference rivals.
 
First Half
  • Manhattanville got out to a quick 8-0 lead following a pair of three-pointers from Mike Granda.
  • Mount Saint Mary responded with the next five points on a triple from Yearwood and a jumper from Mike Dedda (West Chester, Pa.) at the 16:37 mark of the first half.
  • The Knights would cut their deficit down to a single point, at 13-12, on a Jayden Racca (New Fairfield, Conn.) bucket with 13:50 left before halftime.
  • Tommy Lotito answered with a three-pointer for the Valiants to push the lead four points before back-to-back triples from Chris Maestre moved Manhattanville in front 26-14 with 9:39 left in the period.
  • Mount Saint Mary cut its deficit to 26-19 on a Sienke conversion, before Manhattanville closed the half on a 17-6 run to open a 43-25 halftime advantage.
  • The Valiants went 7-for-12 from the floor with a pair of three-pointers over the final 7:54 of the first half.
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 37.5-percent over the opening 20 minutes and knocked in a trio of three-pointers.
  • Manhattanville converted at a blistering 61.5-percent in the first half, including a red-hot 8-for-12 from three-point range.
  • Ryan Graham (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) came off the bench to lead the Knights in scoring in the first half with seven points.
  • Granda led all scorers at the break with 12 points for the Valiants, canning three triples.
 
Second Half
  • Manhattanville spread its lead to 47-26 on a Lotito jumper at the 17:30 mark of the second half and maintained a double-figure lead 6:38 mark of the period.
  • Jayden Figueroa (New Windsor, N.Y.) hit a three-pointer to get the Mount to within 55-46 and a Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.J.) triple at the 5:54 brought the Knights to within 58-49.
  • Following the Cyran three-pointer, Manhattanville put together a 17-2 run to gain a 75-51 advantage. The Valiants went 4-for-4 from three-point range over the run, including a pair from Matt Bielenda.
  • The Valiants' lead grew to go a game-high 25 points with 1:32 left to play, before a Tom Spero (Massapequa, N.Y.) bucket in the closing seconds brought the Mount to within the final 79-57 decision.
  • Mount Saint Mary finished the second half 9-for-26 from the floor and 4-for-14 from three-point range. The Knights split 20 free-throws in the second stanza.
  • Manhattanville continued its efficient shooting, converting at 44.8-percent, including a 5-for-12 showing from three-point range.
  • Sienke led the Mount with eight second half points.
  • Connor Yetman and Bielenda paced the Valiants with eight tallies apiece.
 
For The Knights
  • Sienke finished the night 3-for-4 from the floor and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line in reaching double-figures. He added three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
  • Yearwood connected on a pair of three-pointer for the Knights and recorded an assist and a steal.
  • Graham wrapped up the night with nine points, two rebounds and two assists.
  • Racca went 4-for-6 from the floor on the way to nine points.
  • Jack Lotito (Staten Island, N.Y.) paced the Knights with three assists and three steals.
  • Cyran led all players with seven rebounds and chipped in five points.
 
For The Valiants
  • Granda finished 5-for-8 from the floor and 4-for-7 from three-point range on the way to a game-high 15 points. He led the team with six rebounds and added an assist and a steal.
  • Tommy Lotito handed out eight assists, contributing nine points and two steals.
  • Jackson Leech came off the bench to score nine points and grab five rebounds.
  • Yetman, Maestre and Bielenda all finished up with eight points.
 
Game Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary closed the night shooting 36.7-percent from the floor and went 7-for-24 from behind the arc.
  • Manhattanville converted at 52.7-percent overall and went 13-for-24 from three-point range.
  • Manhattanville posted a 31-17 advantage in points off of turnovers and a 32-18 advantage in points in the paint.
