Knights Cruise To Sixth Straight Victory

Bojka nets 25 in win

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team rolled to its sixth straight victory on Saturday afternoon following a 79-44 home win against Sarah Lawrence. Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) led all players with 25 points in the victory.
 
Saturday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 18-3 overall on the season and 16-1 in Skyline Conference play, while Sarah Lawrence slips to 7-14 overall and 5-13 in conference play.
 
First Half
  • Mount Saint Mary scored the first 10 points of the contest, including four tallies each from Bojka and Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) over the first 2:54 of the contest.
  • Sarah Lawrence got a triple from Kumi Tamura and a bucket from Kimiko Katzaroff  to cut the deficit to 10-5, but that would be as close as the Gryphons would get the rest of the way.
  • The Knights scored the next six points to open a 16-5 advantage keyed by a pair of buckets in transition from Asia Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.).
  • Mount Saint Mary spread its lead to 28-11 on another Bojka conversion with 1:22 left in the opening period as the Mount took a 28-13 advantage into the second stanza.
  • The Knights scored the first eight points of the second period to surge in front 36-13 on a Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) three-pointer with 7:05 left before halftime.
  • The largest lead of the half came on a Shannon Phelan (Tappan, N.Y.) bucket that put the Mount in front 43-17 with just under four minutes left in the quarter.
  • The Knights converted just one more field goal in the period, a lay-in from Kate Hughes (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) with 2:12 left in the half, on their way to a 45-21 halftime advantage.
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 44.2-percent in the opening 20 minutes, connecting on a trio of three-point field goals.
  • Sarah Lawrence was held to 17.9-percent shooting overall, including a 1-for-6 effort from three-point range.
  • Bojka finished the first half 6-for-8 from the floor to lead all scorers with 14 points.
  • Sarah Lawrence received nine first half points from Tamura.
 
Second Half
  • The Knights pushed the lead to 52-22 on a Bojka bucket with 6:53 left in the third stanza.
  • The lead grew to 43 points late in the third period when Erin Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) connected on a jumper in transition to give the Knights a 70-27 advantage.
  • The Mount's advantage would not fall below 35 points in the final period and grew to as large as 41 points twice in the final 10 minutes.
  • Mount Saint Mary cooled to 39.5-percent shooting after halftime and hit on just two of its 11 three-point attempts.
  • Sarah Lawrence improved to 31.3-percent from the floor in the second half, but went just 1-for-4 from three-point range.
  • Bojka poured in 11 more points for the Mount in the second half in just seven minutes of action.
  • Katzaroff led the Gryphons with five second half tallies.
 
For The Knights
  • Bojka finished the contest 11-for-15 from the floor on her way to a game-high 25 points in just 18 minutes of work. She added nine rebounds, an assist and a steal to the winning effort for the Knights.
  • Rivera and Phelan each chipped in eight points for the Mount with Rivera hauling in three rebounds.
  • Cailean Nolan (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) came off the bench to add seven points and five rebounds.
  • Hughes led the team with three assists and chipped in four points and two steals.
 
For The Gryphons
  • Tamura led the team with 13 points and posted five rebounds and two steals.
  • Camryn Davis scored eight points and collected three rebounds.
  • Katzaroff posted seven points and seven rebounds.
 
Game Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 42-percent overall in the victory, despite going 5-for-28 from three-point range. The Knights finished the day 6-for-13 from the free-throw line.
  • Sarah Lawrence finished the day the day shooting 23.9-percent overall and went 2-fof-10 from three-point range and 8-for-14 from the free-throw line.
  • The Knights grabbed 19 offensive rebounds in the game, leading to a 20-4 advantage in second chance points.
  • Mount Saint Mary dominated in transition with a 30-8 advantage in fast break points and controlled the paint with a 46-14 edge in inside scoring.
