Men’s Basketball To Host Sarah Lawrence, Travel To Purchase This Week

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team will square-off with two Skyline opponents in Sarah Lawrence at home on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. before going on the road to face-off with Purchase on Saturday at 12 p.m. Live Stats and Video will be available for both contests for those unable to attend. 

At A Glance: The Knights enter Wednesday's contest against Sarah Lawrence having dropped two straight to SUNY Cobleskill and Yeshiva, as well as five of their last six. They sit at 2-6 overall on the campaign, and 0-1 in Skyline Conference play. 

Jayden Figueroa (New Windsor, N.Y.) has averaged nearly a double-double per game with 14.3 points and 9.8 boards while also adding 2.8 swats, 1.9 steals, and 1.8 assists. Figueroa is shooting 51.8 percent from the field, while converting at a 33.3 percent clip from beyond the arc.  

Elijah Barnett (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) checks in at 12.1 points per night on 54.5 percent shooting and has chipped in 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per outing. 

Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.Y.) has added 11.9 points while ripping down six rebounds per night for the Knights. Chris Yearwood (Red Hook, N.Y.) has chipped in 9.4 points while adding 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 steals per contest. 

As a unit, Mount Saint Mary is good for 69.8 points per game on 43.9-percent shooting from the field, including 27.1-percent from deep and 58.6-percent from the charity stripe. 

Previewing Sarah Lawrence: The Gryphons enter play on Wednesday at 1-7 overall on the campaign, having lost 77-71 to Pratt in their last contest against a Division III opponent. After winning their season opener, they have lost seven straight contests. 

Eamon Kelly leads the Gryphons with 9.8 points per night on 35.1-percent shooting from the field, including 35.7 percent shooting from three. Kelly has chipped in 5.6 boards, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per night. 

Lucas Murray checks in second in points per game at 9.6 per game to go along with 6.6 boards and 1.2 assists. Murray converts at a 48.4-percent clip from the field and 50-percent from beyond the arc. 

Amos Grey leads the team in assists with 4.1 per game, while also contributing 7.1 points and 5.3 boards per contest. 

Collectively, Sarah Lawrence is putting up 60.1 points per night on 38.1-percent shooting from the field, 30.7-percent shooting from three, and 55.4-percent from the free throw line.   

Recent History: Dating back to 2015, the two teams have met 14 times, with the Knights taking nine of those contests. However, Sarah Lawrence has won four of the last five, including a sweep of the Mount a season ago. 

A Look At Purchase: The Panthers enter the week at 5-3 overall on the campaign and 1-1 in conference play. They are winners of three straight, including a 57-56 victory over Maritime last time out. 

Matthew Phillips spearheads the Panthers offense, averaging 13.4 points per game on 46.1-percent shooting from the field while converting triples at a 45.5-percent clip. Phillips is also good for 9.4 boards, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 blocks per night. 

Mark Morgan has produced 13.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per contest. Morgan is shooting 33.3-percent from the field and 29.6-percent from deep, while converting 71.8-percent of his tries from the stripe. 

Issac Johnson has added 8.9 points and 1.4 steals per game, while Rashid Nikiema chips in 6.8 points and 6.4 boards to go along with his team-high 1.4 blocks per game. 

As a team, Purchase is averaging 72.1 points per night on 37.2-percent shooting from the field, 27-percent shooting on triples, and 69.8-percent from the stripe. 

Recent History: Dating back to 2016, the two sides have met 11 times, with Purchase holding a 7-4 record in those meetings. They split their two meetings a season ago, with each game being decided by three points. 

What's Next: Mount Saint Mary will host Rutgers-Newark on December 14 before getting a couple weeks off and returning to travel to Marywood on December 30.
