Knights Head To Russell Sage For Pre-Thanksgiving Tilt With Gators

Knights look to get back into win column

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team looks to stop a mini two-game slide Tuesday evening when it heads north to take on Russell Sage in a pre-Thanksgiving non-conference contest. Tip-off with the Gators in Albany is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those unable to attend.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary enters Tuesday's tilt at 1-3 overall and is coming off losses to Bard and Vassar as part of the 2022 Hudson Valley Classic. The Knights' lone win to date on the season came in an impressive 80-57 home triumph over the City College of New York on November 12.
 
Two Knights are averaging in double-figures through four games, led by 13.8 points per game from newcomer Elijah Barnett (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.). Barnett is converting at 52.3-percent from the field for the Knights and checks in with 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest.
 
Chris Yearwood (Red Hook, N.Y.) is good for an even 11.0 points per game for the Mount and adds 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per tilt for the Knights.
 
Jayden Figueroa (New Windsor, N.Y.) averages just shy of a double-double with 8.8 points and a team-high 9.5 rebounds per game. Figueroa is also the team's top rim protector, swatting 3.0 shots per game through four contests.
 
Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.J.) is in the midst of a solid all-around season for the Mount, scoring 8.8 points per game while averaging 6.5 rebounds and a team-high 1.5 assists per contest.
 
Mount Saint Mary is scoring 61.0 points per game on the season while shooting 38.9-percent overall, 22.2-percent from three-point range and 58-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Scouting Russell Sage: The Gators come into play with the same 1-3 overall record as the Knights. Sage dropped its first three contests of the season before sneaking past SUNY Poly, 70-69, on Saturday.
 
A trio of Gators are scoring at least 10 points per game through four contests, led by 16.3 points per night from Jackson Brown who shoots 45.1-percent overall and just shy of 43-percent from three-point range. Darvin Lovette is good for just over 12 points per game, while Noah Girard chips in 10.3 points per contest.
 
Todd Williamson leads the Gators on the boards with just shy of eight caroms per outing to go along with 9.3 points per tilt. In addition to his scoring output, Girard is tops on the team in assists with 4.0 per game while also leading the team in steals with 2.5 per game.
 
Sage scores just under 66 points per game and shoots 41.5-percent as a team to go along with conversions rates of 30.9-percent from three-point range and 60.0-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Recent History: The old Skyline Conference rivals have met 17 times since the start of the 2009-10 season with the Mount holding an 11-6 record. The Knights won 10 straight in the series from 2009-2014 but have dropped six of the last seven meetings with the Gators.
 
In the last matchup on November 23, 2021 at the Kaplan Center, the Gators outlasted the Knights 73-67 in overtime.
 
What's Next: The Knights will be off through the Thanksgiving weekend before traveling to Hunter Monday evening.
