Knights Face-Off With Bard, Vassar In Hudson Valley Classic

Knights look to build off first win of the season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team will travel to Bard College Friday to take on the Raptors at 8 p.m., before traveling to Vassar College on Saturday to square-off with the Brewers at 6 p.m. to compete in the Hudson Valley Tournament. Live Stats and Video will be available for those who are unable to attend. 

At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary earned its first win of the season on Saturday with an 80-57 home victory over the City College of New York. The Knights shot an efficient 52.6-percent from the field while going 4-for-17 from deep. 

Through two games, the Knights have had their offense led by Elijah Barnett (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), as he has averaged 16.5 points per contest, with scoring outputs of 12 and 21 points.  

Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.Y.) and Chris Yearwood (Red Hook, N.Y.) both check in right under double figures in scoring, with 9.5 points per game. Cyran has also posted 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. 

Jayden Figueroa (New Windsor, N.Y.) checks in averaging 8.0 points, 8.5 boards, and 3.0 blocks per night for the Mount, the latter each being team-highs. 

Scouting Bard: The Raptors enter Friday's contest holding a record of 1-1, falling to Penn State Berks 88-72 last time out. Bard has shot 41.7-percent as a team, including 34.3-percent from three. 

Bard's offense has run through Elliot Harris and Calvin Mader-Clark, who have posted 13.5 points and 12.5 points per game respectively. Harris has shot 45.5-percent from the field, while hitting from deep at a 38.5-percent clip. Mader-Clark has knocked down 46.7-percent of his shots from the field, while drilling 41.7-percent of his shots from downtown. 

Recent History: Since the 2006-07 season, the two sides have met 13 times. Mount Saint Mary is 10-3 In these meetings, but Bard has won each of the last two, coming in 2016 and 2021. 

Scouting Vassar: The Brewers will enter this weekend's tournament owning a record of 1-1 through two games. They traveled to Widener last Saturday and fell  69-51. Vassar has shot just 37.1-percent from the field thus far, while hitting triples at a 28.1-percent clip. 

The Brewers have a pair of players in double figures, as Ethan Ellis has posted 11.5 points per game on 60.0-percent shooting while Avni Mustafaj has scored 10.0 points to go along with ripping down 5.0 rebounds per contest. 

Recent History: The Knights and Brewers have seen one another six times since 2006-07, with Vassar taking four of those meetings. Vassar scored a road win over the Mount in 2021, winning 72-64. 

What's Next: The Knights will travel north to Russell Sage College on Tuesday at 5 p.m. for their final game before Thanksgiving break.
