Women’s Basketball To Host Oneonta, Old Westbury

Knights coming off road win over Middlebury

Newburgh, N.Y. – Fresh off a road victory over Middlebury, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team will play host to Oneonta on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. and play its first conference tilt of the year against Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. Live Stats and Video will be available for both contests. 

At A Glance: The Mount enters the week at 1-1 overall following a home loss to New Paltz in the opener before the aforementioned 68-61 victory over Middlebury on Saturday. 

Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) leads the Mount in scoring through two games, averaging 14.5 points per game while shooting 33-percent on triples. Desrats is coming off a 13-point, eight rebound, five assist performance in the previous game against Middlebury. 

Shannon Phelan (Tappan, N.Y.) checks in with 11.5 points per game on 58.3-percent shooting from the field including 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc, adding four rebounds per contest. 

As a team, the Knights are shooting 36.4-percent from the field and 25-percent from three. Mount Saint Mary is being outrebounded by 12.5 per game, but has a turnover margin of plus-one through two contests. 

Last Time Out: The Mount traveled to Vermont to take on Middlebury and sunk the Panthers 68-61. Phelan paced the Knights in scoring with 14 points on 3-for-7 shooting and ripped down six boards in the win. Desrats was right behind Phelan with 13 points of her own, to go along with eight rebounds and five assists. Erin Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) added 12 points, two assists and a steal for the Mount. 

Scouting Oneonta: The Red Dragons enter Tuesday night's contest with a 1-1 mark overall, scoring a win in their season opener over Hartwick before falling 76-51 to Skidmore on November 10.  

Olivia Dobrovosky leads the Red Dragon's offense through the first two games, averaging 10.5 points per game on 40-percent shooting to go along with 8.5 boards per contest. Sophia Wakin averages 9.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game this far, while adding a block and a steal per game. 

The Red Dragons are averaging 51 points per game on the season on 30.3-percent shooting. They are shooting 22.6-percent on triples and are 23-for-37 from the charity stripe.  

Recent History: The Knights and Red Dragons met for the first time in 2021, with Oneonta scoring a 60-49 victory on November 27. 

Previewing Old Westbury: The Panthers opened their season against Ramapo on November 11 and were thrashed by the Roadrunners 76-29 to fall to 0-1 on the campaign. The Panthers fell to 0-2 on Monday night following a 38-35 non-conference loss to Medgar Evers. 

Nia Owens led the Panthers in scoring in just 17 minutes, dropping nine points on 3-of-10 shooting while securing five rebounds and adding a pair of steals in the season opener. 

Gianna Ventiere scored seven points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds for the Panthers. 

Malaura Olivier and Melinda Harris each added two steals apiece. 

As a unit, the Panthers shot 9-for-50 against Ramapo and did not make a triple, but were 11-of-17 from the free throw line. 

Recent History: The two sides have met 31 times since 2007, with the Knights owning a 25-6 record in those contests. The Knights have won six straight over the Panthers and are 8-2 over the last 10. 

What's Next: Mount Saint Mary will kick off a four-game road trip against Purchase on November 22.
