Knights Open 2022 Skyline Conference Championship At Manhattanville

Knights making 15th straight appearance in conference tournament

Newburgh, N.Y. – The sixth seeded Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team begins its quest for its second conference title Tuesday night when it travels to third seed Manhattanville in the First Round of the 2022 Skyline Conference Championship. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those unable to attend.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary closed out the regular season with an 11-14 overall record and a 6-5 mark against conference rivals. The Knights split their last four regular season contests, posting wins against Purchase and Maritime to clinch its spot in the conference tournament.
 
Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished the regular season as the team's leader in three categories, posting team-highs in kills with 317, service aces with 46 and digs with 237. Riddle averages just shy of four kills per set for the Mount to go along with nearly three digs per frame while chipping in 17 total blocks. Riddle sits atop the Skyline Conference leaderboard in total kills and kills per set.
 
Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) has handed out 577 assists to date for the Mount, good for 6.79 helpers per frame, and has put together a strong all-around 2022 season with 45 kills, 37 service aces, 177 digs and 13 total blocks. Cammarata enters Tuesday's match second on the team in digs and tied for second in aces and stands third in the conference in assists per set.
 
Freshman Erin Lema (Centereach, N.Y.) enters Tuesday's match tied with Cammarata for second on the team in service aces with 37 and supports the offense with 124 kills. Lema checks in with 141 digs and eight total blocks for the Knights.
 
Sabrina Romano (Glen Cove, N.Y.) paces the Mount with 25 totals blocks while chipping in 74 kills, while freshman Brooke Lavelle (Staten Island, N.Y.) ranks second on the squad with 22 total blocks to go along with 37 kills.
 
Scouting Manhattanville: The Valiants closed out the regular season in a three-way tie for first place in the conference standings with a 10-1 record in league matches. Manhattanville, who holds a 21-6 overall record and has won its last four outings, takes the third seed in the conference championship following tie breaker procedures.
 
The Manhattanville offensive attack features five players with at least 100 kills, led by 232 from Alejandra Figueroa. Figueroa averages 3.22 winners per set for the Valiants and adds 43 service aces, good for second on the team. Loren Hernandez supports the offense with 190 winners for the Valiants.
 
Vianca Vital has handed out 801 assists to date for the Valiants, good for nearly 10 helpers per set, and also leads the way with 49 service aces while ranking second on the team with 274 digs. Vital leads the conference in total assists and assists per set and sits sixth in service aces per set. Grace Ballagas holds the team lead with 394 digs, lifting 4.58 per frame, ranking fourth in the conference in digs per set.
 
The Manhattanville defense features a trio of players with at least 20 blocks heading into Tuesday's match, led by 29 from Sofia Morales. Felicity Hoffert checks in with 25 blocks and Meghan Wildes has blocked 22 attempts for Manhattanville.
 
Regular Season Matchup: The two teams met back on October 3 in Purchase, N.Y. with the Valiants coming away with a straight set victory. Manhattanville finished the contest hitting .243 as a team and held a 44-11 advantage in kills and an 11-2 edge in service aces.
 
Figueroa finished the night with a match-high 11 kills, hitting .381 in the contest, and closed a double-double with 11 digs. Hoffert totaled 10 winners for the Valiants with Vital posting a double-double with 37 assists and 14 digs. Ballagas led all players in the contest with 15 digs.
 
Mount Saint Mary was led by five kills from Riddle who closed the night with five digs. Jenna Cullinan (Levittown, N.Y.) finished up with 11 digs with Ava DiScala (Seaford, N.Y.) recording three blocks. Cammarata handed out nine assists for the Knights.
 
Recent History: The two teams have met nine times prior to Tuesday since the start of the 2008 season with the Valiants scoring seven victories. Manhattanville has won each of the last five meetings with the Knights.
 
Recent Skyline Conference Championship History: 2022 marks the 15th consecutive season the Mount has qualified for the Skyline Conference Championship. The Knights won their only conference crown to date in 2012 and returned to the Skyline Conference Championship Final in both 2014 and 2015.
 
What's At Stake: The winner of Tuesday's contest advances to the Semifinal Round of the Championship on Thursday where it will travel to second seeded Farmingdale State.
