Three-Match Week Begins On The Road At Manhattanville

Knights look to get back into the win column Monday night

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team returns to action with three matches this week starting with a conference road tilt at Manhattanville Monday night. The busy week continues with a home tri-match with league rival St. Joseph's-L.I. and King's (Pa.) on Saturday. Live stats and Video will be available for each match for those unable to attend.
 
At A Glance: After winning a season-high six straight matches from September 10 through September 24, the Knights have dropped their last three outings, including non-conference decisions to Montclair State and Brooklyn on Saturday. Mount Saint Mary enters the new week at 7-7 overall and 2-1 against league rivals.
 
Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) leads the team with 202 kills and 162 digs through 14 contests and enters Monday's match just seven shy of setting a new career record for kills at the Mount. Riddle has recorded double-figures in kills in all but one match and stands with 987 career winners. She leads the Skyline Conference in total kills and kills per set (4.21).
 
Freshman Erin Lema (Centereach, N.Y.) checks in with 85 kills and leads the team with 24 aces, while classmate Brooke Lavelle (Staten Island, N.Y.) paces the Knights with 16 total blocks.
 
Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) has handed out 339 assists to date, averaging better than seven helpers per set, and chips in 24 kills, 103 digs and 10 total blocks. Cammarata ranks fifth in the conference in both assists and assists per set.
 
Scouting The Valiants: Manhattanville enters Monday's tilt winners of its last four matches and with a 10-2 overall record. The Valiants are currently tied for first place in the league standings with an unblemished 3-0 mark.
 
Alejandra Figueroa leads the team with 115 kills, while Vianca Vital has handed out 329 assists, 9.68 per set, and is tied for the team standard with Caylee Premoli in service aces with 18. Vital sits atop the Skyline Conference leaderboard in both assists and assists per set.
 
Grace Ballagas is the team leader with 166 digs through 12 matches, while Sofia Morales has recorded a team-high 12 total blocks.
 
Recent History: The two sides will meet for the ninth time since 2008 with the Valiants winning six of the previous eight match-ups. The Knights won back-to-back decisions in 2011 and 2012, topping Manhattanville in four sets on the road in 2011 before earning a sweep at the Kaplan Center in 2012.
 
A Look At The Golden Eagles: St. Joseph's begins play this week on Monday night at USMMA when they will put a six-match winning streak on the line. The Golden Eagles hold a 7-5 overall record and are unbeaten in two conference outings.
 
St. Joseph's features two players with at least 100 kills on the season, led by 119 winners from Madison Gremli. Jackie Wolf is second on the team in kills with 104 and leads the way with 24 service aces.
 
Tara Langford holds the team-high in assists with 275, averaging just over eight helpers per set, while Kellianne Dempsey has lifted a team-high 119 digs, good for just under four per set.
 
Recent History: The long-time Skyline Conference rivals have met 17 times since 2007 coming into Saturday's match, with the Knights holding a slim 9-8 edge in the series. The Knights won five straight matches in the series from 2010-13, but have dropped the last three meetings.
 
Previewing The Monarchs: King's enters a MAC Freedom match with DeSales on Wednesday winners of three straight and with an 11-4 overall record, but an 0-3 mark in conference play.
 
Joy Kindall is off to a strong start in 2022 for the Monarchs, leading the team with 157 kills and 30 total blocks through 15 matches.
 
Andriana Conforti leads the team with 36 service aces and is one of three players with better than 100 assists on the season, checking in with 128 helpers. Keely Hoban begins the week as the team leader in assists with 170 with Carly Shire handing out 159.

Recent History: Mount Saint Mary and King's have meet four times previous to Saturday, but not since 2012. The Monarchs won three straight matches from 2007-09 with the Mount posting a 3-0 win on September 29, 2012 at Montclair State.
 
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary plays four matches next week, hosting Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday before traveling to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Thursday and Misericordia on Saturday for a non-conference tri-match with Lebanon Valley.
