Swimming Opens 2022-23 Season Friday Against Bard

Knights, Raptors meet at Kaplan Center Pool

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's and Women's Swimming teams kick-off the 2022-23 season Friday evening when they welcome local rival Bard to the Kaplan Center Pool. Events with the Raptors are scheduled for begin at 6:00 p.m.
 
MSMC Men At A Glance: The Knights are coming off a 2021-22 season that saw them post a 1-7 dual meet record. The Mount placed third at the Skyline Conference Championship a season ago and took 14th place at the Metropolitan Championship Meet.
 
Mount Saint Mary welcomes back four swimmers from last season's squad in Jackson Lerner (Bayside, N.Y.), Atticus Salazar, Joseph Tagliareni (Hackettstown, N.J.) and Tyler Williams (Middlebury, Conn.).
 
Tagliareni returns after leading the Knights at last season's Skyline Conference Championship, earning sixth place points in the 100-yard backstroke and the 50-yard freestyle as well as a fifth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke.
 
Salazar scored a fifth place finish on day-two of the event win the 200-yard breaststroke, while Williams earned a fifth place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle and placed sixth in the 200-yard backstroke.
 
The Knights add a pair of newcomers in Christopher Astacio (Bronx, N.Y.) and William Kara (White Plains, N.Y.) to support the returning core in 2022-23.
 
MSMC Women At A Glance: The Mount Saint Mary Women's team finished the 2021-22 season with a 2-8 record in dual meets, going on to finish fifth at the Skyline Conference Championship Meet and 15th at the Metropolitan Championship.
 
The Mount features three returning swimmers from last season's team in Kristen Dwight (Newfield, N.J.), Emily Gursky (Oakville, Conn.) and Kitty Masayda (Watertown, Conn.).
 
The returning trio were the Mount's top performers at last season's Skyline Championship with Masayda claiming the team's best individual finish of the two-day event with a sixth-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke. Masayda also turned in an eighth-place finish for the Knights in the 100-yard butterfly.
 
Gursky finished last season's championship with an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke and a 12th place showing in the 100-yard backstroke, with Dwight placing ninth in the 200-yard backstroke for the Knights.
 
The Knights will turn to a talented group of newcomers in 2022-23 for an immediate impact when the season opens on Friday. The Mount welcomes Maggie Carey (Seaford, N.Y.), Cheyenne Herold (Newburgh, N.Y.), Grace MacHugh (Newburgh, N.Y.) Cayla Nicholas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Stefanie Sommer (Monroe, N.Y.) to the fold for the 2022-23 campaign.
 
What's Next: Following Friday's season opener, the Mount will host an Alumni Meet on Saturday before traveling to the College of Staten Island to take on the host Dolphins and league rival Sarah Lawrence on November 5.
