Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team begins an important week Wednesday when it plays host to Manhattanville before traveling to take on St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Saturday. Manhattanville is currently three points ahead of the Mount in the conference standings entering the week.
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary was shocked by Merchant Marine 3-2 last time out in what could prove to be a devastating loss. The Knights hold a record of 6-5-3 overall and 4-2-2 in conference play entering Wednesday night's tilt with Manhattanville.
The Knights offense continues to be led by Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) and Christopher Maggi (Franklin Square, N.Y.). Wyant has tallied 17 points on four goals and nine assists, while Maggi has tallied 16 points on seven goals and two assists.
Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Peter Ramirez (New Windsor, N.Y.) are tied for third on the team in scores, with three each.
Caesar Martinez (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) has played every second in goal this year to this point, saving 63 shots while posting a 1.29 goals-against average. He also owns six shutouts on the season.
Scouting Manhattanville: The Valiants enter the week in second place in the Skyline Conference ahead of three teams including Mount Saint Mary by three points. They hold a record of 7-4-3 overall, with a record of 5-1-2 in games against league rivals.
The Valiants scoring attack has been well rounded, with ten different players recording at least two goals but no one scoring more than three goals. Michael Mezzina owns the team lead in points with 11, tallying three goals and five assists. Jostyn Blanco and Kendall Davis have both posted three scores and two helpers as well.
In goal, Luis Granados has started all 14 games, allowing 11 scores while stopping 46 shots, good for a 0.807 save percentage.
Recent History: The two sides have squared off three times since 2017, with Manhattanville owning a record of 2-0-1.
A Look At St. Joseph's Brooklyn: The Bears enter the week on the outside looking in in the conference standings, but are winners are of three straight and have opened a path to potentially get in. They own a record of 5-5-3 overall, while going 3-3-2 in league contests.
Victor Naci has been the driving force of the Bears offense with 41 points, scoring 19 goals, which is good for first in the conference by a wide margin. Francisco Garcia has helped on six scores this year to lead the team in that category.
Between the pipes, Leonel Bravo has gone the distance in all 13 contests, posting 45 saves with a 1.54 goals-against average.
Recent History: Dating back to 2015, these two teams have played six times. Mount Saint Mary has won all six, and shutout the Bears in each of the last five.
