Women’s Soccer Continues Crucial League Action Against Old Westbury, St. Joseph’s L.I.

Knights currently hold final playoff spot in the conference

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team begins the home stretch of the 2022 season this week, as it plays host to Old Westbury Tuesday night before going on the road to take on St. Joseph's L.I. on Saturday. Live Stats and Video will be available for both contests. 

At A Glance: The Knights are coming off a non-conference loss at Hamilton on Sunday, dropping that contest by a score of 6-1. Mount Saint Mary enters the week at 4-10-2 overall and 4-3-1 in conference action, a mark that has them holding the final postseason spot in the conference tournament. 

The Mount Saint Mary offense is led by Kaitlin Hansen (Port Jervis, N.Y.), who has totaled a team high 13 points, scoring five goals and three assists. Shannon McGowan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) has scored four times, while Emma Mihale (Oceanside, N.Y.), Angie Mainiero (Vineland, N.J.), Maria Baldwin (Patchogue, N.Y.) and Megan Stosch (North Babylon, N.Y.) have each added three goals for the Mount. 

In goal, Caroline Brucato (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) are in a time share, with Brucato starting seven contests with a 4.26 goals-against average and Kakavas starting six games posting a 2.55 goals-against average.  

Scouting Old Westbury: The Panthers enter the week at 4-8-1 overall on the campaign, with a record of 1-6-1 in Skyline Conference play. Old Westbury got knocked down by Farmingdale State last time out, dropping that contest 5-0. 

Old Westbury's offensive attack is spearheaded by Mia Almonte, who has racked up 24 points on ten goals and four assists. Her ten goals have her at fourth in the Skyline Conference. Jessica Pedroza has supported the offense with five assists. 

Natalie Intrieri has manned the goal for Panthers, starting ten out of 14 contests. She has posted 60 saves with a 2.27 goals-against average. 

Recent History: Mount Saint Mary is 15-2 against Old Westbury dating back to 2008, including 14 straight victories for the Knights.  

Previewing St. Joseph's L.I.: The Golden Eagles sit at 6-4-2 overall on the season, also owning a 5-3 record in conference play. They sit one spot ahead of Mount Saint Mary in the conference standings. They dropped a conference contest to Sarah Lawrence 3-0 last time out on Saturday. 

Abbey Curcio and Carli LoNigro have posted 14 and 13 points respectively to lead the Golden Eagles offense. Brooke Esposito has added eight assists, which is second in the Skyline Conference. 

In goal, Madelyn Hunter and Mikayla Ritter have split time but have both been excellent. Hunter has allowed just a single goal in six games, good for a 0.23 goals-against average, while Ritter has allowed five goals in seven games, good for a 0.87 goals against average. 

Recent History: Dating back to 2007, the Knights have the edge in this series 14-6-1 over St. Joseph's. In their last meeting, the Knights won 1-0. 

What's Next: Mount Saint Mary's final contest of the regular season will come on October 26 at home against Purchase.
