Men’s Soccer Looking To Extend Win Streak Against St. Joseph’s Long Island, Merchant Marine

Knights have won four straight, unbeaten over their last five

Newburgh, N.Y. – Having won four straight and not having lost a game since September 18, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team will play host to St. Joseph's Long Island on Tuesday night, before traveling to Merchant Marine on Saturday.

At A Glance: The Knights are red hot, outscoring opponents 17-2 over their four-game win streak. Last time out, they knocked off Purchase by a score of 4-0. Mount Saint Mary enters Tuesday nights contest at 6-4-2 overall, and 4-1-1 in Skyline Conference play.

Christopher Maggi (Franklin Square, N.Y.) continued his scorching run against Purchase, scoring another goal. Maggi has a team leading six goals and has scored five over the last three contests. Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) leads the Knights with 17 points, tallying four goals to go along with his nine assists, also a team high.

Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Peter Ramirez (New Windsor, N.Y.) have both scored three goals for the Knights.

In goal, Caesar Martinez (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) is allowing a meager 1.17 goals per game while making 58 saves, and has posted three shutouts in the last four games.

Scouting St. Joseph's L.I.: Through 10 contests, the Golden Eagles hold a 6-2-2 overall record, and 3-1-2 mark in conference action. They are coming off consecutive 0-0 draws against Sarah Lawrence and Manhattanville.

Vincent Mariani leads the Golden Eagles offense, owning team high marks in goals and points, with five and ten, respectively. Sean Gordon leads the team in assists, tallying four on the season.

Between the pipes, Josh Lehr has saved 33 shots with a .767 save percentage, while posting three shutouts on the campaign.

Recent History: The two teams have met 19 times since 2007, with the Golden Eagles owning a 12-7 record. However, Mount Saint Mary has won the last six meetings between the two sides.

Previewing Merchant Marine: The Mariners enter the week with a 4-4-5 overall record on the year, and a 1-1-4 record in Skyline Conference action. They have dropped back-to-back 1-0 contests to Manhattanville and Western Connecticut State. They will square off with Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday.

Will Ferry leads the Mariners offense, posting five goals and an assist for a total of 11 points. Connor Damare, Clayton Ecalono, and Jason Healey have all scored three goals to support the offense.

Chase Miller and Ashton Carey have split time in goal for Merchant Marine, with Miller starting eight games and Carey starting five. Miller owns a 0.78 goals-against average and has made 35 stops. Carey owns a 0.99 goals-against average and has stopped 19 shots.

Recent History: The two sides have met six times since 2016, with Mount Saint Mary owning a record of 4-2. Merchant Marine won the most recent matchup 6-0 in the First Round of the 2021 Skyline Conference Championship. 

What's Next: Mount Saint Mary will host Manhattanville on October 19 at 7 p.m.
