Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) scored a game-high 29 points and in the process surpassed 1,000 career tallies as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team cruised to 95-64 road conference win at St. Joseph's-L.I. Sunday evening.
Bojka becomes the 17
th 1,000-point scorer at the Mount since the start of the 1991-92 season and with 1,017 points to date is 13
th on the scoring list over the same time frame.
Sunday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 14-3 overall and 12-1 in conference play, while the Golden Eagles fall to 10-6 overall and 7-6 in league action. Sunday's victory also pushes the Mount's record in the head-to-head series to 26-3 since the start of the 2007-08 season.
First Half
- Mount Saint Mary held a 12-point advantage after 10 minutes, scoring 30 points in the opening frame on 52.2-percent shooting.
- The Knights scored the first eight points of the contest, including six from Bojka.
- A three-point play from Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) with 4:56 left in the period pushed the Knights' lead to 14-4.
- The first quarter lead grew to 20-4 on a Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) conversion with 3:50 left.
- St. Joseph's cut its deficit to 22-16, but the Knights answered with an 8-2 run to close the frame to take a 30-18 lead after 10 minutes.
- Bojka, who needed 12 points at the start of the day to reach 1,000 as a Knight, finished the first period with 13 tallies.
- Mount Saint Mary continued its hot shooting in the second period, converting at 47.1 percent while outscoring the Golden Eagles 18-14.
- Mount Saint Mary did not allow its advantage to fall below 10 points in the second stanza.
- The Knights spread their lead back to 16 points on an Asia Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) bucket with 4:44 left before halftime.
- The lead ballooned to 48-28 on a Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) three-pointer with just under three minutes left in the quarter.
- The Smith triple was the Knights' final scoring of the half, but the Mount did not allow a St. Joseph's field goal over the final 3:42 of the period as it took a 48-32 lead into the intermission.
- Bojka, Rivera and Toriana Tabasco (Hillsdale, N.J.) all paced the Knights with four points in the second period.
Second Half
- Mount Saint Mary held a lead of at least 13 points throughout the second half.
- The Knights cooled to 30-percent shooting in the third period, but outscored the Golden Eagles by seven from the free-throw line and 21-17 overall in the quarter.
- Mount Saint Mary spread its lead to 59-37 on a Bojka bucket with 6:48 left in the period and stayed in front by at least 16 points from that point forward.
- The Knights started the final period with a 69-49 lead before finishing the final stanza outscoring St. Joseph's 26-15 on 47.4-percent shooting.
- The Knights moved in front 74-49 on a Tabasco conversion early in the fourth period and pushed its advantage to a game-high 31 points when a pair of Alyssa Caswell (Fishkill, N.Y.) free-throws gave the Mount the final 95-64 advantage.
- Six different Knights found the scoring column in the fourth quarter, led by 10 points from Erin Smith (Goshen, N.Y.).
For The Knights
- Bojka led all scorers with 29 points after going 10-for-19 from the floor, including a three-pointer, and a perfect 8-for-8 showing from the free-throw line. Bojka closed a double-double with a career-high 15 rebounds, adding two assists, two blocked shots and a steal.
- K. Smith finished with 15 points, knocking down three triples, five assists and a pair of steals.
- Tabasco closed a big game with 11 points, six rebounds, a game-high six assists and three steals.
- E. Smith reached double-figures with 10 points, knocking down a pair of triples.
- Keenan led all players with 13 rebounds and rounded out a strong game with seven points, four assists, three blocks and a steal.
- Desrats and Rivera each chipped in nine points and five rebounds for the Knights.
For The Golden Eagles
- Felicia Barreiros came off the bench to lead St. Joseph's with 18 points on the strength of 6-for-9 shooting.
- Alyssa Adomaites, who started the day as the league's leader in scoring, was limited to 11 points on 5-for-14 shooting.
- Alyssa Signor and Lanyah Ford each finished with 10 points with Ford leading the team with four assists.
Game Statistics
- Mount Saint Mary shot 44.3-percent overall in the contest and went 9-for-19 from three-point range.
- St. Joseph's was limited to 34.3-percent shooting overall and a 6-for-20 showing from three-point range.
- Mount Saint Mary dominated second chance scoring, turning 17 offensive rebounds into an 18-2 edge in second chance scoring.
- The Knights finished with the advantage in paint points 42-28 and fast break points 12-6.
