Knights Suffer Fifth Straight Loss

Calame nets career-high 11 points

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team dropped its fifth straight decision on Sunday afternoon, falling on the road at Farmingdale State by a score of 76-55. Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.J.) and Miles Calame (Staten Island, N.Y.) each scored in double-figures, with Calame finishing with a career-high 11 points.

Sunday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 5-11 overall on the season and to 3-5 in conference play, while Farmingdale State improves to 12-7 and 8-2 within the Skyline Conference.
 
First Half
  • The Knights jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead on a Cyran three-point field goal just under four minutes into the contest.
  • The Knights spread their lead to a game-high nine points when a second Cyran triple grew the advantage to 14-5 with 14:57 left before halftime.
  • The Knights maintained the advantage until the Rams got a triple from Romello Wright to jump in front 19-18 at the midway point of the opening period.
  • After falling behind by three-points, the Mount regained a 22-21 advantage on a pair of Cyran free-throws.
  • The Rams answered with the next seven points to surge in front 28-22 on a Tre Riggins bucket and would not relinquish the lead again in the contest.
  • Mount Saint Mary pulled to within 33-32 on a Jack Lotito (Staten Island, N.Y.) bucket with 2:29 left before the Rams scored the final three points of the period to take a 36-32 advantage into the intermission.
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 44.4-percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes and went 4-for-13 from three-point range.
  • The Rams connected on 40.6-percent of their attempts and went 4-for-9 from long distance.
  • Cyran led the Mount with 12 first half points.
  • Riggins paced Farmingdale State with 12 points off the bench in the opening stanza.
 
Second Half
  • The Rams pushed their lead to double-figures for the first time on a pair of Corey Powell free-throws that gave them a 42-32 lead just under two minutes into the second half.
  • The Knights would get the disadvantage down to eight points twice before a 12-2 run for Farmingdale State, capped by a Zamere McKenzie three-point play, gave the Rams a 56-38 advantage.
  • The Knights would not be able to cut its deficit under 16 following the Rams' run with Farmingdale State pulling in front by a game-high 26 points, 73-47, on a Jaden Barwicki conversion with just over three minutes left to play.
  • Mount Saint Mary cooled to 8-for-30 shooting after halftime.
  • Farmingdale State shot 48.1-percent and hit on four more three-pointers in the second half.
  • Calame led the Knights with nine second half tallies.
  • Jevon Santos led 11 different second half scorers for the Rams with six points.
 
 
For The Knights
  • Cyran led the Mount with 12 points on 4-for-10 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers. He added five rebounds an assist and a steal.
  • Calame reached double-figures for the first time in his career, going 3-for-5 from the floor and a perfect 5-fof-5 from the free-throw line. He grabbed three rebounds and assisted on a pair of baskets.
  • J.P. Egan (Lansdale, Pa.) came off the bench to contribute nine points, two assists and two steals.
  • Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) narrowly missed a double-double after hauling in a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with eight points, two blocks and a team-high four assists.
 
For The Rams
  • Nick Hurowitz and Riggins led all players with 14 points apiece. Hurowitz added three rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Riggins blocked a pair of shots.
  • Powell chipped in 11 points, adding two assists and a pair of steals.
  • Santos led all players with five assists and finished a strong day with six points, five rebounds and four thefts.
Game Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary shot 35.1-percent from the floor overall and went 4-for-20 from three-point range.
  • Farmingdale State converted at 44.1-percent, including an 8-for-19 showing from three-point range.
  • Farmingdale Stat forced 17 turnovers and translated those into a 24-12 edge in points off of miscues.
  • The Rams held the edge in the paint 34-24, in second chance scoring 13-4 and in transition 18-6.
 
What's Next
  • Mount Saint Mary makes a return trip to the Farmingdale State campus on February 2 when it will take on Old Westbury.
  • The Rams play host to Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday.
