Keuka Park, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Volleyball team wrapped up play at the Keuka Invitational on Saturday afternoon with a split of two non-conference matches. The Knights were dealt a four set loss by the host Wolves by scores of 12-25, 25-17, 23-25, 19-25 before sweeping Hilbert by scores of 25-14, 25-7, 26-24.
Saturday's split moves Mount Saint Mary to 2-1 overall through the season's first three matches with Keuka improving to 2-2 with the win over the Mount. Hilbert fell to 0-3 on the season following the loss to the Knights.
Keuka 3 – Mount Saint Mary 1
First Set
- The Knights were held to just four kills in the opening frame against the Wolves with Keuka putting away 12 winners.
- After opening a 5-1 lead, Keuka used a 10-2 spurt to open a 15-4 advantage.
- The Knights scored consecutive points in the set just twice.
Second Set
- The Knights put away nine kills in the second frame against just four attack errors.
- The Knights jumped out to a 6-3 lead with a 5-0 run keyed by three kills from Grace Riddle (Wantagh, N.Y.) and a service aces from Alyssa Barbara (Islip Terrace, N.Y.).
- With an 8-5 lead, the Mount scored seven straight points to move in front 15-5. The Mount took advantage of four attack errors from the Wolves.
- Keuka pulled to within 21-15 before the Knights scored four of the final six points of the set to even the match at 1-1.
Third Set
- The Knights recorded a match-high 11 kills in the third frame and after trailing much of the set used a 4-1 run to grab a 21-20 lead. Sabrina Romano (Glen Cove, N.Y.) supported the spurt with a pair of kills.
- Keuka rallied to pull in front 23-21 before the Knights got kills from Jackie Wolf (Kings Park, N.Y.) and Romano to even the score at 23-23.
- Keuka used a kill from Lillian Mueller and an attack error to score the final two points of the set and take a 2-1 lead.
Fourth Set
- Mount Saint Mary recorded just seven kills and made eight attack errors in the deciding fourth set.
- The Knights used a 5-0 run to pull in front 12-8, but saw the Wolves counter with an 8-1 run to surge in front 17-14.
- The Mount would get as close as three points twice late in the frame, but Keuka took advantage of a Tionna Moss winner and two Mount Saint Mary miscues to close out the match.
For The Knights
- Riddle put away a season-high 11 kills against Keuka, adding eight digs and two service aces.
- Romano and Wolf each totaled six kills with Romano adding a block and Wolf posting 15 digs.
- Renee Hydo (Bethpage, N.Y.) put away four kills and lifted 11 digs to go along with two aces.
- Fran Cammarata (Carmel, N.Y.) handed out 18 assists and matched the team-high with 16 digs.
- Barbara joined Cammarata with 16 digs in the match, adding three assists and a service ace.
Match Statistics
- Keuka finished the match with a 42-31 advantage in kills.
- The Wolves held a slim 9-8 edge in service aces and a tight 5-4 advantage in total team blocks.
Mount Saint Mary 3 – Hilbert 0
Match Statistics
- Mount Saint Mary held Hilbert to just 13 kills in the match, posting a 28-13 advantage in the category.
- Mount Saint Mary hit .143 in the match, while the Hawks hit at -.141
- The Mount doubled up Hilbert in service aces, 14-7.
- Total team blocks in the match were even at 3-3.
For The Knights
- Hydo recorded a double-double with a season-high 10 kills and a team-high 15 digs.
- Cammarata handed out 22 assists, adding a block and six digs.
- Wolf continued the strong start to her season with five kills and five aces.
- Riddle and Danielle Guarasci (Plainview, N.Y.) each totaled four kills with Riddle lifting seven digs.
- Barbara rounded out the victory with four aces and five digs for the Knights.
For The Hawks
- Katie Kociszewski led the team with six kills.
- Jessica Cruz-Jackson paced the team with 11 digs.
- Abigail Elisofon handed out a team-high 12 assists.
What's Next
- Mount Saint Mary makes the short trip to New Paltz on September 10-11 to play three matches at the New Paltz Hawks Invitational.
- The Knights will take on New Paltz on Friday before clashing with Sage and Alfred on Saturday.
