Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team battled hard on Wednesday evening, but ultimately suffered a 6-3 Skyline Conference decision to St. Joseph's-L.I. in a marathon match at the MSMC Tennis Courts.
Julia Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) and
Carly Green (Holbrook, N.Y.) each remained unbeaten in singles play for the Knights.
Flynn and Green each pushed their singles records to 6-0 on Wednesday with Flynn posting her victory at the second position and Green claiming a third singles triumph. Flynn fought her way to a 6-4, 6-4 win for the Knights to remain unblemished in 12 career decisions, while Green cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory against the Golden Eagles.
At first singles,
Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) suffered a marathon heartbreaker for the Knights. After taking the first set of the match 6-4, the match was evened with a 6-2 win for Madison DiPalo in the second set. DiPalo then outlasted Murray 15-13 in the tie breaker to earn the victory.
Murray and
Victoria Valencia (Floral Park, N.Y.) scored the Mount's lone win in the doubles portion of the match and moved to a perfect 6-0 on the season. The duo rallied from an 0-5 deficit in the match to score an 8-7 (7-4) victory for the Knights.
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-2 overall on the season and to 0-2 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a Skyline Conference home match against Yeshiva scheduled for October 5.
