Women’s Tennis Gets Back On Track With Non-Conference Win Over Sage

Flynn, Green remain unbeaten in singles play

Newburgh, N.Y. – After suffering its first loss of the season on Saturday, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team got back into the win column Monday evening with 6-3 non-conference victory over Sage. Julia Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Carly Green (Holbrook, N.Y.) remained unbeaten in singles play with victories over the Gators.
 
Mount Saint Mary got off to another strong start after taking two of the three doubles matches on Monday. Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and Victoria Valencia (Floral Park, N.Y.) moved to 5-0 on the season at the second position with an impressive 8-2 victory. Katrina Imperio (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) and Gracie Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y.) pushed their record to 3-1 on the year with an 8-0 sweep at the third position.
 
In singles action, Flynn and Green battled their way to 5-0 records at the second and third positions, respectively. Flynn posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory for the Knights, while Green outlasted her opponent 6-4, 6-4 at the third slot.
 
Playing at the fifth position for the first time this fall, Imperio collected a hard fought 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4) win to push her singles record to 3-1 on the season. Bianca Ayala Santana (Port Jervis, N.Y.) made her first start of the season at the sixth position for the Knights and clinched the team victory with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph.
 
Monday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 4-1 overall on the season. The Knights return to Skyline Conference play on Wednesday when they play host to St. Joseph's-L.I. Doubles matches with the Golden Eagles are scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
