Men’s Soccer Travels To Old Westbury, Mount Saint Vincent To Open Conference Play

Knights looking to stop two match skid

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team kicks-off the Skyline Conference schedule this week with road contests at Old Westbury on Wednesday and at the College of Mount Saint Vincent Saturday afternoon. The Knights and Panthers will meet at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday evening on the campus of Farmingdale State with the Mount and Dolphins kicking-off at 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Riverdale.

Old Westbury: All fans must wear masks indoors at all times regardless of your vaccination status.
For outside games or events, fans must show proof of vaccination (NYS Excelsior Pass) upon entering the stadium. If you do not show proof of vaccination, masks are required at all times.
 
Each set of fans must sit at least six feet away from other fans.
 
Fans are not permitted to interact with players or coaches before, during or after games.
 
Tailgating is not permitted.
 
There will be NO Live Stats or Video provided.
 
At A Glance: The Knights will play their first game since suffering a 2-0 road loss at SUNY Poly on September 15. The loss dropped the Mount to 1-4 on the season and was its second straight defeat overall.
 
Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) is the lone goal scorer for the Mount after converting a penalty kick in the season opener against Vassar. The Mount's other tally came on an own goal in a double overtime win at Fredonia on September 10.
 
Zach Decker (Red Hook, N.Y.) has seen all the action between the pipes for the Mount, posting a .700 save percentage and a 2.31 goals against average. He has stopped 28 shots to date in 2021.
 
 
Scouting Old Westbury: The Panthers enters Wednesday's contest with a 2-2 overall record and are coming off back-to-back wins over Brooklyn (4-2) and Hunter (2-1).
 
Jean Gardy Derineau is one of four different goal scorers for Old Westbury, leading the team with two tallies. Derineau paces the squad with four points while Jonathon Hernandez, Erick Ortega and Osiris Shepherd have all recorded an assist. Hernandez has added a goal and sits second on the team in points with three.
 
James Perciballi has seen the bulk of action in goal through four games, playing 328:28 of a possible 360:00. He has stopped 18 opponent shots and is sporting a .720 save percentage and a 1.92 goals against average.
 
A Look At The Dolphins: Mount Saint Vincent begins the week with a 3-0-1 overall record and a 1-0 mark in league play heading into a Wednesday night road game at Maritime. Mount Saint Vincent is coming off a 2-1 win over York (NY)on Saturday, with Carlos Romero and Tyrone Malango scoring the goals.
 
Romero is off to a good start for Mount Saint Vincent, leading the team with three goals, two assists and eight points. Romero is tied for the team lead in helpers with two, joining Ruben Collazos with a pair of assists.
 
Fernando Guzman has scored twice and is second on the team with five points heading into Wednesday's contest with Ian Lamas potting a pair of goals for four points.
 
The Dolphins have used a pair of keepers to date with Joel Luna playing 345:47 of a possible 374:04. He has made 21 saves leading to a .875 save percentage and a 0.78 goals against average.
 
Recent History: Since 2007, Mount Saint Mary holds an 8-5-2 record against Old Westbury, including a 3-0-1 mark in the last four meetings. In the last matchup, a road game for the Knights on October 2, 2019, the Mount posted a 5-0 victory with Wyant and Connor Doyle (New Windsor, N.Y.) each scoring twice.
 
Mount Saint Mary has dominated the series with Mount Saint Vincent since 2007, holding a 9-2-1 record. The Knights have won the last four meetings, including a 2-1 win in Riverdale on October 5, 2019. Doyle tallied both goals for the Knights prior to halftime in the win.
 
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary is set to host a pair of Skyline Conference contests next week, welcoming Maritime to Newburgh on September 28 and then Sarah Lawrence on October 2.
