Knights Travel To SUNY Poly For Midweek Contest Against Wildcats

Knights went 1-1 at Fredonia Blue Devil Classic last weekend

Newburgh, N.Y. – Coming off a 1-1 performance at the Blue Devil Classic hosted by Fredonia last weekend, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team returns to the road on Wednesday when it travels to SUNY Poly. Kick-off with the Wildcats is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those unable to attend.
 
At A Glance: Following a split at Fredonia, Mount Saint Mary enters Wednesday's contest with a 1-3 record through the season's first four contests. The Mount picked up its first win of the year, a 1-0 victory against the host Blue Devils in double overtime, on Friday night before falling to Buffalo State in a 2-0 decision on Saturday.
 
The deciding tally was an Own Goal on Friday with Zach Decker (Red Hook, N.Y.) recording his first shutout as a Knight with a trio of saves. The Knights outshot Fredonia in the game 19-15 overall and 11-3 in shots on target.
 
Despite the loss on Sunday, Decker stood tall in goal, making a career-high 13 saves in goal for the Knights.
 
Through four games, Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.) leads the team in goals with one on a team-high four shots.
 
Decker has started and played all four contests in goal and enters Wednesday game with 24 saves, a .706 save percentage and a 2.38 goals against average.
 
Scouting SUNY Poly: The Wildcats stand at 2-1 overall on the season and 1-0 in the North Atlantic Conference following a 4-0 win over SUNY Canton on Saturday. Edgar Gomez scored twice and Matthew McCord assisted on three goals in the win. James D'Alessio earned the shutout in goal for the Wildcats with a pair of stops.
 
Through three games, Gomez paces the team with three goals and seven points with Festus Alonge and Cole Wright each potting two goals. McCord sits atop the team leaderboard in assists with three and is one of seven different players with at least one helper on the year.
 
D'Alessio has played two of the three games between the pipes for the Wildcats and holds a 1-1 record. He has a 1.00 goals against average and a .600 save percentage while making a trio of stops thus far.
 
Milestone Watch: Head Coach Kevin Longacre is one win away from 100 at the Mount in his 10th season. Longacre has produced seven 10-win seasons with the Knights, including 14 victories in both 2018 and 2019.
 
Recent History: The Knights and Wildcats will hook up for the first time since 2009 when they square-off on Wednesday. In two previous meetings, starting in 2008, the Wildcats have won 2-0 in 2008 and 2-1 in double overtime in 2009.
 
What's Next: The Knights open Skyline Conference play on September 22 when they travel to Old Westbury. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Farmingdale State.
