Newburgh, N.Y. – Searching for its third title in the last four seasons contested, Head Coach
Kevin Longacre announced the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Soccer team's 2021 game slate Tuesday morning. The schedule features 17 regular season contests, including seven home tilts, and a full 11-game Skyline Conference slate. As in the spring of 2021, the schedule is subject to change by any new guidance released by New York State, the Skyline Conference and/or the NCAA.
The Knights begin the 2021 season with two straight road games when they travel to Lycoming to open the season on September 1 before crossing the Hudson River to tussle with local foe Vassar on September 4.
The first of seven home games will be played on September 7 when the Mount welcomes NESCAC power Middlebury to Kaplan Field for a midweek showdown. Following the initial home match of the season, the Mount will hit the road until September 28, playing five straight road games.
The longest road trip of the season begins with two games at the 2021 Blue Devil Classic hosted by Fredonia on September 10 and 11 and continues with a non-conference contest at SUNY Poly on September 15. The road swing concludes with Skyline Conference competition at Old Westbury on September 22 and the College of Mount Saint Vincent on September 25.
Mount Saint Mary returns home to take on Maritime on September 28 in the two sides' first meeting since the 2019 Skyline Conference Championship final, the last title awarded by the conference before the 2020 season was cancelled due to Covid-19. The Knights remain home for an October 2 clash with Sarah Lawrence to open the second full month of the season.
The Mount finishes off the regular season with four of its final seven contests at home, including a quick two-match home stand against Purchase on October 16 and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on October 20. The Knights also play host to Yeshiva on October 10 and St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in the regular season finale on October 26. Road games down the stretch for the Knights include trips to Farmingdale State (10/6), St. Joseph's-L.I. (10/12) and Manhattanville (10/23.).
At the conclusion of the regular season, the top-six teams in the conference standings will compete in the Skyline Conference Championship with a berth in the NCAA Tournament on the line. The Knights have won two of the last three championships contested, topping St. Joseph's-L.I. 1-0 in 2017 and the United States Merchant Marine Academy 2-0 in 2018 before falling to Maritime 3-2 in double overtime in 2019.
Mount Saint Mary concluded the 2019 season, the last played, with a 14-6-1 overall record and an unblemished 10-0-1 mark against Skyline Conference rivals.
