Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Baseball team continued the 2021 season with a 4-3 win in eleven innings at Manhattanville on Friday afternoon. Four Knights recorded at least two hits in the game, including three from
Dominick Marzigliano (Highland Mills, N.Y.).
The Knights got down 3-0 through six innings on Friday before scoring four straight runs to collect their 11
th win of the season. Anthony Pressimone got the Valiants on the board with a run scoring single in the third before Tyler Mandel pushed Manhattanville in front 3-0 with a two-run double in the sixth.
Mount Saint Mary got on the board in the seventh when
Michael DiGiovanni (Shirley, N.Y.) singled home
Liam Merlin (Reading, Mass.).
Cullen Roper (Stratford, Conn.) got the Mount a run closer with a run scoring single in the eighth before the Knights even the score when
Ben Crowley (Highland Mills, N.Y.) scampered home on a passed ball to tie the score at 3-3.
The two teams played scoreless ninth and tenth frames before the Knights broke through in the eleventh with a runner starting on second base.
Coleman Barnes (New Hampton, N.Y.) started in scoring position and after moving to third on a sacrifice bunt scored on a double steal with the deciding run.
Manhattanville put two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the eleventh with one out, but
Christopher Snyder (Islip, N.Y.) got a foul out and a fly out to end the threat and secure the victory.
Marzigliano led the Mount after going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Crowley and Barnes each recorded two hits for the Knights and scored a run with
Steven Mirra (Wallingford, Conn.) going 2-for-6 for the Mount. Mirra stands at 98 hits for his career heading into Saturday's doubleheader with the Valiants.
Robert Brust (Shirley, N.Y.) made the start for the Knights and worked the first 4.0 innings, allowing a run on five hits. DiGiovanni worked 3.0 innings and fanned two before Snyder came on to work the final 4.0 innings. He did not allow a run as he moved to 2-0 on the season.
At 11-10 overall, Mount Saint Mary will finish off the 2021 season on Saturday with a pair of games against Manhattanville in Newburgh. The doubleheader is set to get underway at 12:00 p.m.
