Knights Rally For Overtime Win At Sage

Keenan posts double-double; five score in double-figures

Albany, N.Y. – Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) and Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) each scored 15 points and led five players in double-figures as the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team overcame a 13-point third quarter deficit to score a 79-73 overtime win on the road at Sage Tuesday evening.
 
Tuesday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 5-2 overall on the season while Sage drops back down to the .500 mark at 4-4. The Mount's victory pushes its record against the Gators to 15-9 dating back to the start of the 2007-08 campaign.
 
First Quarter
  • The Knights held a 16-12 lead after 10 minutes, shooting 36.8-percent from the floor in the opening stanza.
  • The Knights held a lead as large as six points twice in the first stanza. Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) moved the lead to 14-8 with a layup at the 3:09 mark and Erin Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) gave the Knights a 16-10 advantage with a bucket with 33 seconds left in the quarter.
  • Mount Saint Mary did not allow a field goal for the final 1:48 of the period and went to the second quarter with a four-point edge after two free-throws from Bre Lott with 11 seconds left in the opening stanza.
 
Second Quarter
  • Mount Saint Mary shot just 20-percent from the floor in the second period with Sage converting at 46.1-percent.
  • The Gators outscored the Knights 20-9 in the quarter on their way to a 32-25 led at the intermission.
  • Mount Saint Mary maintained the lead in the second period until the 5:45 mark when a Lauren Sanderson bucket knotted the score at 20-20.
  • After falling behind 22-20, the Mount moved back in front 25-22 following a bucket from Desrats and a three-pointer from E. Smith with 3:51 left before halftime.
  • The Smith bucket was the last scoring for the Knights in the quarter as the Gators finished off the frame with the final 10 points.
  • Sammy Pasinella pushed Sage in front by a half-high seven points at 32-25 with a three-point play with 37 seconds left before halftime.
 
Third Quarter
  • Sage quickly spread its lead to 36-25 on an Olivia Huneau three-pointer just under three minutes into the third frame.
  • The lead for the Gators grew to a game-high 13 points when Lott converted a layup to push Sage in front 45-32 with 4:25 left in the period.
  • Mount Saint Mary would not be able to pull closer than nine points until the late stages of the quarter when Keenan and Shannon Phelan (Tappan, N.Y.) converted layups in the final 31 seconds to get the Knights to within 49-44 heading to the fourth quarter.
  • Mount Saint Mary shot an even 40-percent from the floor in the third stanza and outscored the Gators 19-17.
 
Fourth Quarter
  • Mount Saint Mary would trail the majority of the fourth period and was able to close to within two points twice before a E. Smith triple with 45 seconds left knotted the score at 65-65.
  • The Knights trailed by as many as eight points in the fourth quarter, but held Sage to just four points over the final three minutes to force overtime.
  • The Knights shot just 25.9-percent from the floor in the fourth quarter, but five of their seven makes in the period came from behind the arc.
 
Overtime Period
  • The Knights converted on four of their five field goal attempts in the overtime and knocked in five of their six free-throw attempts.
  • The two teams traded buckets early in the overtime before back-to-back conversions from Keenan pushed the Knights in front 71-67.
  • A Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) triple pushed the Mount in front 74-68 with 1:39 left to play.
  • The Knights closed the game 5-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final 38 seconds.
 
For The Knights
  • Keenan closed out the night with 15 points, going 5-for-9 from the floor. She hauled in a game-high 16 rebounds, matching her season-high in the category. Keenan finished off a big night with two assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
  • Bojka added 15 points, six rebounds and four steals.
  • E. Smith came off the bench to knock down four three-pointers on her way to 14 points.
  • Desrats and Asia Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) each scored 10 points with Rivera adding eight rebounds and four steals and Desrats handing out three assists.
  • K. Smith chipped in nine points and three assists.
  • Phelan closed the night with six points and seven rebounds.
 
For The Gators
  • Lott led all scorers with 18 points off the bench, adding nine rebounds.
  • Pasinella scored 16 points for the Gators.
  • Faraj closed out a double-double with 12 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
 
Game Statistics
  • The Knights shot 32.6-percent overall for the game and finished 10-for-36 from three-point range and 13-for-22 from the free-throw line.
  • Sage converted at 39.3-percent, going 4-for-13 from behind the arc and 21-for-37 from the charity stripe.
  • Mount Saint Mary turned 26 offensive rebounds into a 21-14 advantage in second chance points.  
 
What's Next
  • The Knights return to Skyline Conference play on Thursday when they play host to St. Joseph's-L.I.
  • Sage is off until it hosts Oneonta on December 17.
