Knights Set For Non-Conference Games Against Cobleskill, #22 RPI

MSMC looks to extend two game winning streak

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team continues the 2021-22 season with a pair of non-conference games this week, traveling to Cobleskill on Tuesday before hosting #22 RPI Saturday afternoon. Schedule Update: The Skyline Conference game at Sarah Lawrence, originally scheduled for Saturday, December 4 will be made up on Monday, January 10. Tip-off in Bronxville is now scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary has won each of its last two outings by a combined two points, topping Hartwick 73-72 on November 29 before edging USMMA 67-66 on December 1 in its Skyline Conference opener.
 
Chris Yearwood (Red Hook, N.Y.) and Ryan Graham (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) lead the scoring attack with 14.1 and 10.0 points, respectively. Yearwood is shooting 44.3-percent overall and 41.2-percent from three-point range and adds 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Graham hauls in just over three boards per game to go along with 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals per outing.
 
Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.J.) is good for just under 10 points per contest and 5.7 caroms per game with Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) and Jayden Figueroa (New Windsor, N.Y.) each chipping in 8.3 points per tilt. Figueroa paces the Knights on the glass with 9.6 rebounds per game and was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday after averaging a double-double in the Mount's two victories last week.
 
Mount Saint Mary is scoring 65.6 points per game through the first seven contests of the season, shooting 40.0-percent overall, 32.5-percent from three-point range and 67.5-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Scouting Cobleskill: The Fighting Tigers enter Tuesday's contest with a 1-7 overall record and are coming off a 95-76 loss to SUNY Delhi in their conference opener on Saturday.
 
Antwan Claxton leads three Fighting Tigers scoring in double-figures with 18.9 points per game, adding a team-high 8.4 rebounds per contest. Claxton is in the midst of a strong season, averaging 3.4 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per outing.
 
James Conteh is good for 16.9 points per outing with Daniel Owens chipping in 11.3 points per game. Owens is handing out 3.2 assists and just under two steals per contest for Cobleskill.
 
The Fighting Tigers score 80.1 points per game and are outscoring opponents by an average of 7.1 points. Cobleskill shoots 45.5-percent from the field, 33.8-percent from three-point range and 72.8-percent from the free-throw line. Cobleskill is forcing better than 18 turnovers per game and scoring 21 points off of miscues per night.
 
Recent History: The two teams last met in Newburgh on December 13, 2019 with the Fighting Tigers coming away with a 76-65 victory.
 
A Look At RPI: The Engineers are ranked #22 nationally in this week's D3Hoops.com Top-25 and hold a perfect 6-0 start heading into a Liberty League tilt with Bard on Wednesday. RPI swept its first Liberty League weekend, topping Hobart 75-64 on Friday and taking care of RIT by a score of 69-51 on Saturday.
 
Three Engineers are scoring in double-figures through six games, led by 15.7 points per contest from Mason Memmelaar who is shooting 60.3-percent from the floor. Memmelaar adds 6.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
 
Jonny Angbazo is good for 13.8 points per game on 52.7-percent shooting to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Patrick Mahoney contributes 13.0 points to the scoring attack to go along with 5.0 rebounds and better than two assists per game.
 
Dom Black leads the team on the glass with 6.2 caroms per outing and checks in with 9.0 points, 3.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
 
RPI is outscoring opponents by 24 points per game and is averaging just over 80.3 points per contest. The Engineers shoot 48.2-percent overall as a team and convert at 41.3-percent from three-point range and 73.6-percent from the charity stripe. The Engineers outrebound their opponents by 15 per game and are scoring nearly 16 points per game off of turnovers.
 
Recent History: The two sides last meet in Troy on November 22, 2019 with the Engineers coming away with a 83-54 victory, their fourth straight win in the series dating back to the start of the 2006-07 season.
 
What's Next: Following Saturday's tilt, the Mount will be off until December 30 when it travels to Marywood to close out the 2021 portion of the schedule.
