Knights Knock Off Valiants, Advance To Skyline Championship Final

Platt nets game winner in first half

Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team traveled to second seeded Manhattanville on Wednesday and scored a 1-0 win over the Valiants, propelling the Knights into the Skyline Conference Championship Final at Farmingdale State on Saturday. KellyAnn Platt (Staten Island, N.Y.) provided the goal for the Mount with Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) recording the shutout in goal.
 
Wednesday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 11-6-2 overall on the season heading into Saturday's final and gives in a 3-1-1 record against Manhattanville in its last five outings. Saturday's final will mark the 10th time in the last 11 seasons the Knights have played in the conference's title tilt.
 
First Half
  • Shots were hard to come by in the opening 45 minutes, with the Knights holding a 3-1 advantage in attempts at the break.
  • Corner kicks in the opening stanza also went to the Mount by a 2-1 count.
  • Platt finally broke the ice late in the first half, scoring her seventh goal of the season at the 39:23 mark of the contest.
  • Platt's goal came on the third and final shot of the half for the Knights, with Manhattanville's lone attempt coming off the foot of Ashley Hayes in the final minute of the half.
  • Kakavas was not forced to make a save prior to halftime
  • Manhattanville keeper, Alexa Pyatsky, finished the opening period with a single stop.
 
Second Half
  • The Knights continued to stifle the Valiants in the second half, allowing just three attempts at the goal.
  • Mount Saint Mary closed the second stanza with a 4-3 advantage in shots.
  • There were no corner kicks after halftime.
  • Kakavas turned aside three shots in the second frame to preserve the shutout.
  • Pyatsky stopped one shot after halftime to keep the Valiants within a goal.
 
For The Knights
  • Platt moved into a tie for first on the team in goals with her seventh and tallied her team leading third game winning goal of the year.
  • Platt, Lauren Engel (Red Hook, N.Y.) and Maggie Zecca (Mountainside, N.J.) all led the Knights with two shots in the game.
  • Engel, Platt and Mary Langan (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) all posted a shot on goal.
  • Kakavas posted her seventh clean sheet of the season with three saves. Her save percentage rose to .835 while her goals against average fell to 0.89.
 
For the Valiants
  • Alexa Fasce led Manhattanville with two shots, including one shot on target.
  • Pyatsky finished the day with a pair of saves in goal.
 
Match Statistics
  • Mount Saint Mary closed the game with a 7-4 advantage in overall shots, while shots on goal in the game were even at 3-3.
  • Corner kicks wen to the Knights on the day, 2-1.

  • Mount Saint Mary travels to top seeded Farmingdale State on Saturday to take on the Rams in the 2021 Skyline Conference Championship Final. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
