Newburgh, N.Y. – For the second straight game
Chris Yearwood (Red Hook, N.Y.) set a new career-high but his 23 points were not enough in a 72-64 home loss to Vassar as part of the Hudson Valley Tournament Saturday evening.
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 0-4 overall on the season while the Brewers improve to 3-2. Saturday's meeting was the first since December 12, 2012 between the two sides, with Vassar now holding a 4-2 record in the last six meetings in the series.
First Half
- Mount Saint Mary got off to a quick start on Saturday, scoring the first eight points of the tilt.
- Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) keyed the opening run with a pair of three-point field goals.
- Mount Saint Mary opened a 12-2 lead on a Connor Cyran (Garfield, N.J.) lay-in just over five minutes into the contest.
- The Mount's lead grew to a half-high 12 points, at 14-2, on a Ryan Graham (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) conversion with 13:29 left before halftime.
- Mount Saint Mary would never trail in the opening period, but a quick 8-0 spurt from the Brewers saw the Knights' lead close to 19-17 on a Neville Lee triple with 7:29 left in the half.
- Mount Saint Mary responded with back-to-back lay-ups from Yearwood to get its lead back to six points at 23-17.
- A Jack Rothenberg bucket got Vassar back to within 23-21, before an 8-2 spurt to finish the half from the Knights sent them into the intermission with a 31-23 advantage.
- Mount Saint Mary shot an even 40-percent from the floor in the opening period, including a 4-for-13 effort from three-point range.
- Vassar converted at 32.3-percent overall in the first half and went 3-for-11 from three-point range.
- Graham led the Mount in scoring in the first half with eight points.
- Vassar was led by four first half points from Rothenberg and Zach Johnson.
Second Half
- Mount Saint Mary maintained the lead coming out of the break until a Kevin McAuliffe three-pointer knotted the score at 33-33.
- Mount Saint Mary jumped back in front on a Yearwood bucket, before Vassar grabbed its first lead of the game on a pair of Rothenberg free-throws with 13:44 left in regulation time to push the Brewers in front 36-35.
- Graham answered with a bucket to push the Mount back in front by a point and gave the Mount its final lead of the night at 37-36.
- Vassar put together a 10-0 run following the Graham bucket to grab a 46-37 lead.
- The Brewers jumped in front by 11 points, at 55-44, on another McAuliffe three-pointer.
- Vassar grabbed a game-high 14-point lead twice in the final 5:34 and the Mount would not be able to climb closer than the final eight point decision the remainder of the half.
- Mount Saint Mary shot 33.3-percent overall in the second half and went 4-for-8 from three-point range.
- Vassar shot an efficient 53.1-percent in the second stanza, including 6-for-11 from three-point range.
- Yearwood went 4-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-4 from behind the arc on his way to 17 second half points.
- McAuliffe went 5-for-5 from three-point range, notching 15 second half tallies for the Brewers.
For The Knights
- After scoring 21 points on Friday against Bard, Yearwood set a new career-high with 23 points on Saturday. He finished 7-for-16 with three triples and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. He added five rebounds and a pair of assists for the Knights.
- Graham closed the night with 12 points and a team-high three assists.
- Cyran tallied 11 points and eight rebounds.
- Jayden Figueroa (New Windsor, N.Y.) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and blocked three shots.
- Sienke, Figueroa and Miles Calame (Staten Island, N.Y.) all registered two steals in the game for the Mount.
For The Brewers
- Rothenberg and McAuliffe led the Brewers with 18 points apiece. McAuliffe went 6-for-7 from three-point range in the contest with Rothenberg going 7-for-12 from the floor to go along with six rebounds.
- Johnson notched 12 points and game-highs in rebounds with 18 and assists with five.
- Ethan Ellis totaled eight points and handed out three assists.

- Mount Saint Mary closed the game shooting an even 37-percent and went 8-for-21 from three-point range.
- Vassar converted at 42.9-percent and connected on 10 three-pointers.
- Mount Saint Mary outscored the Brewers from the free-throw line 16-8.
- Vassar turned 16 offensive rebounds into a 19-7 advantage in second chance scoring.
- Vassar controlled the paint, outscoring the Mount 34-20 inside.
