Newburgh, N.Y. – Following its 2-0 win over Sarah Lawrence on Saturday, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team travels to second seeded Manhattanville on Wednesday for a Skyline Conference Championship Semifinal Matchup with the Valiants. Raina Quinones (West Babylon, N.Y.) and
Megan Stosch (North Babylon, N.Y.) provided the goals for the Knights.
Quinones scored five goals over three games last week, including her first career game winner on Saturday. She sits atop the team leaderboard in tallies with seven and enters Wednesday's game second on the team in points with 15.
Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) continues to pace the Knights in assists with nine and points with 19 and is tied for the team lead with two game winning goals.
KellyAnn Platt (Staten Island, N.Y.) has scored six times to date for the Knights, joining Bornstad with two game winning tallies, with
Liz Ellsworth (Suffern, N.Y.) checking in with five goals and 12 points.
Nikki Carter (Southington, Conn.) has contributed four goals to date for the Mount with
Wendy Guerra (Newburgh, N.Y.) and Stosch each finding the back of the net three times.
Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) has started 13 games in goal to date for the Mount and has played 1,231:40 of a possible 1,664:29. Kakavas has produced four shutouts to date for the Mount and is sporting a. 829 save percentage and a 0.95 goals against average while stopping 63 shots. Kakavas enters the Semifinal leading the league in save percentage and ranks third in the conference in goals against average.
Scouting Manhattanville: The Valiants earned the second seed in the Skyline Conference Championship after completing the regular season with a 10-3-2 overall record and an 8-1-1 mark in conference play. Manhattanville won its last three regular season meetings by a combined 12-1.
Manhattanville features five players with at least five goals on the season, led by 11 apiece from Natalie Aracena and Kelly Barrera. Aracena adds seven assists for a team-high 29 points with Barrera adding a pair of helpers for 24 points.
Ashley Hayes leads the team with eight assists on the season and has chipped in nine goals, ranking second on the team with 26 points. Jennifer Xiong supports the offense with 20 points on the strength of seven goals and six assists.
In goal, Alexa Pyatsky has played 1,112:19 of a possible 1,393:08 and has turned aside 33 opponent shots. Pyatsky has recorded five shutouts to date and holds a .750 save percentage and a 0.89 goals against average. Pyatsky enters Wednesday's contest as the league leader in goals against average.
Regular Season Matchup: The two sides met on September 25 at Kaplan Field in Newburgh and played to a 0-0 draw. Mount Saint Mary finished the day with a 10-8 edge in overall shots, while Manhattanville doubled up the Knights in shots on goal, 6-3. Corner kicks went to the Knights on the day by a slim 5-4 margin.
Pyatsky earned a shutout for the Valiants with three stops on the day, while
Caroline Brucato (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and Kakavas combined on a clean sheet for the Knights. Brucato recorded five stops in 65 minutes of work with Kakavas posting one save in 45 minutes of action.
Recent History: Since 2018, the Mount and Manhattanville have met four times with the Knights holding a 2-1-1 record.
The two teams met in the Semifinal Round of the 2019 Skyline Conference Championship, with Manhattanville scoring a 1-0 upset win over the top-seeded Knights. Hayes scored in the 74
th minute and Pyatsky was forced to make just one save to let the one goal hold up.
Recent Skyline Conference History: Mount Saint Mary advanced to the Skyline Conference Championship Final for nine straight seasons from 2010-18 and with Wednesday's appearance in the Semifinal Round have appeared in the Conference's Final Four in 11 consecutive seasons.
What's At Stake: Wednesday's winner will take on the winner of the Farmingdale State and College of Mount Saint Vincent semifinal on Saturday at the highest remaining seed with the conference crown on the line.
