Knights Open Skyline Conference Play At Purchase, St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn

Knights coming off win over #24 George Fox

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Basketball team opens conference play this week with road games at Purchase and St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. Live Stats and Video will be available for both the 7:00 p.m. tip at Purchase on Tuesday and the 1:00 p.m. contest on Saturday at St. Joseph's.

At A Glance: The Mount enters conference play at 1-1 overall after suffering a road loss at New Paltz in the season opener before a tight 61-59 home win over #24 George Fox on Thursday.
 
Katie Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) leads the Mount in scoring through two games, averaging 14.0 points per game while shooting 52.2-percent from the floor. After scoring 13 points in the season opener, Smith led all scorers against George Fox with 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting. She closed out the win with two rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
 
Erin Smith (Goshen, N.Y.) checks in with 10.0 points per game for the Mount with Annie Keenan (Nesconset, N.Y.) good for 7.5 points per game. Keenan paces the Mount on the glass with 14.0 rebounds per tilt and is posting a team-high 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game.
 
As a unit, Mount Saint Mary is shooting 33.3-percent overall and holds a +7.0 rebound margin through two games. The Knights are forcing 21 turnovers per contest and converting those miscues into nearly 17 points per game.
 
Last Time Out: The Mount hosted #24 George Fox on Thursday and clipped the Bruins 61-59 at the Kaplan Center.
 
Smith reached double-figures for the second straight game to open the season, scoring 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting. She closed out a strong night with two rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

Keenan added nine points and 12 rebounds to go along with two assists and two blocked shots.

Morina Bojka (Prospect, Conn.) and Lauren Desrats (Warwick, N.Y.) led the team with three steals apiece, with Bojka chipping in eight points and Desrats collecting six rebounds.

E. Smith and Asia Rivera (Saddle Brook, N.J.) both contributed eight points to the winning effort.
 
Previewing Purchase: The Panthers enter Tuesday's contest with an 0-1 overall record after suffering a 58-53 home loss to Pratt on Saturday.
Four Panthers scored in double-figures in the loss, led by 14 points from Alyssa Aurora. Aurora finished the contest 5-for-6 from the floor and 4-for-5 from three-point range while adding a rebound and three steals.

Kasia Morrison came off the bench to add 12 points to the offensive attack with Miya Ritchie and Shadai Plowden each scoring 10 points. Plowden hauled in a team-high nine rebounds and joined Jules Martinez with a team-high four assists.

Purchase finished the game shooting 31.9-percent from the field and 22.7-percent from three-point range. The Panther gave up 32 offensive rebounds in the game, leading to a 28-4 advantage in second chance scoring for Pratt.

Recent History: Since the start of the 2015-16 season, the Mount and Purchase have met 10 times with the Knights coming away victorious on each occasion. The most recent win came in a 68-53 triumph at Purchase on February 22, 2020. Mount Saint Mary is outscoring the Panthers by nearly 30 points per game over the past 10 matchups.
 
Scouting St. Joseph's-Brooklyn: The Bears enter Saturday's contest at 0-2 overall after suffering losses to Baruch and Hunter to open the season. The Bears dropped the season opener to Baruch 75-56 before falling to Hunter on Saturday by a score of 85-69.

St. Joseph's features three players who score in double-figures, led by 20.5 points per game from Kelly O'Donnell. O'Donnell adds 14.5 rebounds per game for the Bears and better than three steals per tilt.
Grace Kennedy checks in with 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game with Alexis Breen scoring 11.0 points per tilt to go along with 5.0 rebounds, a team-high 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per outing.

As a team, St. Joseph's is scoring 62.5 points per game and is shooting 28.7-percent overall and just 13.3-percent from three-point range. Opponents are shooting 42-percent from the floor against the Bears and converting at 28.1-percent from three-point range.

Recent History: The two teams last met in the Semifinal Round of the 2020 Skyline Conference Championship, with the Bears pulling away for a 72-57 victory. The win stopped a 10-game winning streak for the Mount who holds a 10-2 record in the series over the last 12 meetings.
 
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary hosts the College of Mount Saint Vincent on November 23 and heads to Oneonta on November 27.
