Women’s Soccer Set To Tussle With William Paterson To Open ECAC Championship

Knights enter Saturday at 11-7-2 overall

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Soccer team travels to Alfred for a Saturday contest with William Paterson to open the ECAC Championship. Kick-off with the Pioneers is set for 2:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those who are unable to attend the contest.

At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary enters the ECAC Championship with an 11-7-2 overall record and will be in action for the first time since suffering a 2-0 loss to Farmingdale State in the Skyline Conference Championship Final on November 6.
 
Raina Quinones (West Babylon, N.Y.) and KellyAnn Platt (Staten Island, N.Y.) lead the Mount's scoring attack with seven goals apiece, with Platt tallying the game winning goal in three contests. Quinones sits second on the team in points with 15 with Platt third in points with 14.
 
Brittany Bornstad (Linden, N.J.) anchors the Mount's backline and paces the squad with nine assists and 19 points. Liz Ellsworth (Suffern, N.Y.) has scored five times to date for the Knights and rounds out a quartet of players with at least 10 points with 12 on the season.
 
Chloe Kennedy (Middletown, N.Y.) enters the weekend second on the team in assists with four, while Maggie Zecca (Mountainside, N.J.) and Ashley Hunter (North Babylon, N.Y.) have each helped on three goals for the Knights.
 
In goal, Christina Kakavas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) has put together a strong first collegiate season, starting 15 games and playing 1,411:40. She has posted seven shutouts for the Knights and holds a .826 save percentage and a 0.96 goals against average while stopping 71 shots.
 
All Conference Accolades: Mount Saint Mary had five players honored with All-Skyline Conference selections it was announced on Monday. Bornstad and Kennedy were each made First Team selections, while Quinones, Kakavas and Julia DeSantis (Islip, N.Y.) were all recognized with Second Team All-League honors.
 
Previewing The Pioneers: William Paterson enters Saturday's contest at 8-8 overall and were last in action in a 1-0 victory over NJCU on October 27.
 
Julia Fiorito leads the way for the Pioneers with five goals and ranks second on the team with 10 points. Isabel Fernandez is the team leader with 11 points, scoring four goals and sitting in a tie for first on the team with three assists. Fernandez, Fiorito and Megan Ponce have all scored two game winning goals, combing for six of the eight deciding tallies on the season.
 
Erica Hickey has started 15 of the 16 games in goal for William Paterson to date and has produced a trio of shutouts. Hickey has made 53 saves entering the weekend and holds a .716 save percentage and a 1.42 goals against average.
 
Recent History: The two teams played in back-to-back seasons in 2013 and 2014 and have not met since a 2-0 win for the Pioneers in Newburgh on September 24, 2014. The Knights earned a 1-0 road victory in 2013.
 
Recent ECAC History: The Knights last appeared in the ECAC Championship in 2018, suffering a 2-0 loss at the hands of Wilkes in the First Round. The Mount's last win in the ECAC Championship came on November 11, 2015 when Destiny Ribadeneyra scored twice in the final five minutes to push the Knights to a 2-1 win over Stockton.
 
What's At Stake: The winner of Saturday's contest will take on the winner of the Alfred and Westminster (Pa.) match on Sunday.
