Monahan clinches victory at fourth singles

Newburgh, N.Y. – Taking on a short-handed Manhattanville squad, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team picked up its second straight conference victory with a 5-4 win over the Valiants on Thursday. Gracie Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y.) clinched the win with a fourth singles victory for the Knights.

After picking up three points by default, the Mount needed to win just two matches against the Valiants and it came away with a convincing 8-0 win at second doubles and Monahan's victory at the fourth singles slot. Monahan cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory, improving to 3-3 in singles action on the season.

Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and Victoria Valencia (Floral Park, N.Y.) improved to 7-1 on the season at second doubles, blanking their opponents from Manhattanville.

At third singles, Carly Green (Holbrook, N.Y.) suffered her first loss of the season, dropping a hard fought 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 decision to Kelsey Ulzheimer. Green stands at an impressive 7-1 at third singles through the season's first eight matches.
