Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team closed out the home schedule on Saturday with a 9-0 loss to league rival Farmingdale State on Senior Day. Following the match, the Knights honored the three members of this year's senor class:
Gracie Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y.),
Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and
Tiana Porco (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.).
Murray dropped a hard fought decision at the first singles flight on Saturday, dropping her match to Anastasia Hoffman 6-7 (2-7), 0-6.
Carly Green (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Monahan suffered spirited 2-6, 2-6 losses at the third and fourth positions, while
Victoria Valencia (Floral Park, N.Y.) battled hard in a 2-6, 5-7 fifth singles decision.
In doubles action, the top pair of
Julia Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Green suffered an 8-2 defeat, while Murray and Valencia fell in their contest at the second position 8-4.
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 6-3 overall on the season and to 2-3 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights will close out the fall regular season on Friday, October 15 with a road match at Sarah Lawrence. Match time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
