Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Athletic Department closes out the first week of 2021 with a look back at January 8 as part of its 'On This Date' series.
 
Men's Basketball
The Men's Basketball team has been busy on today's date, holding a 4-2 record in six previous outings dating back to the start of the 2006-07 season.
 
During a 75-48 non-conference win over the City College of New York in 2007, Mount Saint Mary all-time leading scorer Mike Hoyt erupted for 34 points against the Beavers and closed a big all-around game with four rebounds, four assists and four steals.
 
A season later, Mount Saint Mary edged Polytechnic in a high scoring affair by a score of 90-83. The Knights featured six players in double-figures in the win, led by 20 points from Jason Cardez who rounded out the win 5-for-8 from three-point range. Matt Weinberger totaled 18 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Alex Kuchar put together a strong game with 13 points, four rebounds and seven helpers. Tim Morris, Chris Harrison and Dave Canazon posted 16, 12 and 11 points with Harrison adding eight rebounds for the Knights.
 
Mount Saint Mary collected a Skyline Conference win over Sarah Lawrence on today's date in 2018, sneaking past the Gryphons by a score of 80-76. Tyler McDine, Gerard Nocera and Jovin Ramos all totaled 12 points in the win, with Nocera adding seven rebounds. Daniel Wolff rounded out a quartet of Knights in double-figures with 11 points.
 
A year later, on January 8, 2019, the Knights pulled away from the Gryphons for an 83-61 conference victory in which they shot 55.9-percent overall and held a 46-24 edge in paint points and a 23-7 advantage in points off of turnovers.
 
Kendall Francis led the scoring attack with 17 points to go along with four assists with Tristan Millett contributing 15 points and four helpers. Jameson Morton closed the victory with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and a trio of steals with Nick Lucas coming off the bench to post 11 points and six rebounds.
 
Women's Basketball
The Knights hold a perfect 3-0 record on January 8 since the start of the 2007-08 season, topping Farmingdale State 66-45 in 2011, Sarah Lawrence 64-37 in 2019 and Old Westbury 53-37 in 2020.
 
In the 2011 win, Jen Mocanu led the Knights with 17 points to go along with six rebounds, six assists and five steals against the Rams. Jess Tice also turned in a strong performance with 13 points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots and three steals.
 
Against Sarah Lawrence in 2019, the Mount featured four players in double-figures led by 14 points and four rebounds from Lyndsay Pace. Katie Smith finished with 13 points and three assists and Gabriella Rafaniello totaled 10 points and eight caroms for the Knights. Morina Bojka produced a double-double in the win, scoring 10 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
 
Most recently, the Mount stifled Old Westbury on today's date in 2020 and had four players reach double-figures in scoring. Bojka closed the victory with 13 points and 11 rebounds, with Pace, Lauren Desrats and Annie Keenan all posting 11 points. Keenan joined Bojka with a double-double performance, totaling 14 rebounds to go along with four steals.
