Newburgh, N.Y. – Following two wins in three conference outings last week, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball squad will take on a pair of conference foes this week starting with #22 Yeshiva on Wednesday. The Knights and Maccabees will tip-off at 8:00 p.m. at the Kaplan Center before the Mount heads to Purchase, N.Y. to close the season series with Manhattanville Saturday afternoon.
At A Glance: The Knights scored a pair of wins in three tries against Skyline Conference South Division foes last week, topping St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and St. Joseph's-L.I. and falling at home to the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
Senior
Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) maintains the team lead in scoring for the Knights and is tops on the team with 46 three-point field goals made and 4.4 assists per contest. Francis, who is averaging 17.7 points per game, ranks eighth in the conference in scoring average and sits fourth entering the week in assists.
Junior
Jameson Morton (Woodstock, N.Y.) is the only other Knight scoring in double-figures on the season, checking in with 10.5 points per outing. Classmates
Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) and
Ethan Fox (Wallingford, Conn.) are closing in on double-figures with both players good for just over nine points per night. Fox leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game and is shooting 53.3-percent from the floor to go along with 1.3 blocks per game. Sienke converts at 52.8-percent for the Knights and collects just over four rebounds per game.
Senior
Tristan Millett (Allentown, N.J.) leads the team with 2.1 steals per game to go along with 2.6 assists per night, while
Jovin Ramos (Secaucus, N.J.) is second on the team with 13 three-point field goals and is shooting 36.1-percent from behind the arc.
Through 19 contests, Mount Saint Mary is scoring 63.7 points per game and currently ranks second in the conference, allowing only 69.2 points per outing. The Knights shoot 39.9-percent overall from the field, 28.1-percent from three-point range and 64.6-percent from the free-throw line.
Last Time Out: The Knights placed four players in double-figures and built a lead as large as 27 points in a 71-59 road win at St. Joseph's-L.I. on Saturday.
Francis and Fox led the Mount with 16 points apiece, with Fox equaling the team-high with seven rebounds. Sienke chipped in 15 points for the Knights and Morton scored 11 points and joined Fox with seven boards.
Mount Saint Mary shot 47.2-percent from the floor and held the Golden Eagles to 29.0-percent shooting.
Scouting Yeshiva: The Maccabees have not lost since the season opener and are on an 18-game winning streak that has improved them to 18-1 overall and a perfect 10-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Maccabees posted a 77-68 win on the road at Williams on Monday and sit at #22 in the latest D3Hoops.com Top-25 Poll.
Ryan Turrell leads the Yeshiva in scoring with 23.4 points per game, which ranks him second in the conference in scoring average. Turrell is shooting 62.3-percent from the floor in 220 attempts and adds nearly seven rebounds per game.
Gabriel Leifer, who was named the Skyline Conference and Met Writers Player of the Week, is in the midst of a stellar season that has him averaging a double-double. Leifer scores 17.8 points per game, hauls in 13.3 rebounds per outing and hands out 6.0 assists per night. He leads the conference in rebounding and is second in the league in assists. Leifer shoots 55.0-percent from the floor overall and 45.2-percent from three-point range.
Simcha Halper checks in with 16.8 points per game and paces the Macs with 73 three-pointers made while shooting nearly 43-percent from long distance. Ofek Reef rounds out a quartet averaging double-figures with just shy of 12 points per game.
The Macs lead the conference in scoring with 85.5 points per night and are shooting a league best 52.2-percent from the floor and 39.6-percent from three-point range. Yeshiva enters the week second in the league in free-throw percentage, converting at 73.9-percent from the line.
Recent History: The Mount holds a 17-9 record against Yeshiva over the last 26 meetings, but has dropped three of the last four matchups. The two sides split last season's series, with the Mount posting a 70-63 home win and the Macs scoring a 96-60 win on their home floor.
A Look At Manhattanville: The Valiants enter a Wednesday date with Farmingdale State at 12-7 overall and 7-3 in Skyline Conference play, good for second in the North Division. Manhattanville is coming off a 100-79 loss to Yeshiva on Saturday that stopped a five game winning streak.
Mike Granda and JoJo Cobbs lead the scoring attack for the Valiants with Granda scoring 14.9 points per game and Cobbs good for 14.8 points per night. Granda has knocked in a team-high 63 three-pointers and is shooting nearly 43-percent from bonus distance to go along with a team-high 3.3 assists per game. Cobbs is shooting better than 45-percent from the floor and adds 5.3 rebounds per outing.
Jake Dunn supports the offense with 11.3 points per game and leads the team with nearly two steals per night, while Khari Taylor paces the team on the glass with 5.6 rebounds per game.
Manhattanville scores 70.4 points per game entering the week and shoots 43.5-percent overall, 35.4-percent from three-point range and 62.3-percent from the free-throw line.
Recent History: The two teams have split the last four meetings, including a 74-52 win for Manhattanville on January 8 at the Kaplan Center.
What's Next: The Knights continue conference play on Tuesday when they travel to North Division rival Maritime for a 7:00 p.m. tip with the Privateers.
