Knights Begin Home Stand Against Western Connecticut, Emerson

Knights begin five game home stand Tuesday evening

Newburgh, N.Y. – Coming off a thrilling 11-10 double overtime win at Bard on Saturday, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Lacrosse team will play the first two of five straight home games when it hosts Western Connecticut on Tuesday and Emeson Saturday afternoon. Live stats will be available for both contests with video available for Tuesday's tilt.
 
At A Glance: The Mount enters Tuesday's home game with the Colonials at 1-0 following an 11-10 double overtime win at Bard in the season opener on Saturday.
 
Five different Knights scored two goals in the contest with Brandon Holloway (Garden City, N.Y.) and Michael Gallucci (Northport, N.Y.) each registering four points on two goals and a pair of helpers.
 
Billy Holland (Pearl River, N.Y.) added two markers, including the game winner, and picked up four groundballs with R.J. Maher (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and Brian Esposito (Floral Park, N.Y.) each scoring twice. Esposito rounded out a strong all-around game with an assist, three groundballs and three caused turnovers.
 
Newcomer Zachary Beam (Montgomery, N.Y.) won 12 face-offs in the season debut and collected five groundballs, while Devin Kelley (Hebron, Conn.) earned his first collegiate win with seven saves in goal for the Knights.
 
Mount Saint Mary finished the game with the advantage in overall shots 61-37, shots on goal 35-17, groundballs 36-32 and face-offs 13-10. The Knights went 16-for-21 in clearing chances and 4-for-7 with the man advantage.
 
Scouting Western Connecticut: The Colonials head to Kaplan Field with a 2-0 record, posting victories over Nichols and Sage in their first two contests of the season. Western Connecticut is averaging 22 goals per game to date and is winning better than 69-percent of its face-offs taken.

14 different players have scored a goal for Western Connecticut entering Tuesday's contest with Ryan Reuling leading the way with nine tallies. Eric Caldwell has scored seven times and is tied with Timothy Yannucci for the team lead in points with 11. Yannucci has tallied five goals and dished out a team-high six assists.
 
Nick Grimaldi is tops on the team with 27 groundballs and has won 47 face-offs, with Matt Peters causing a team-high five turnovers.
 
In goal, Perry Cassidy has seen the bulk of action and stopped 18 opponent shots to go along with two groundballs. He holds a 9.82 goals against average and a .545 save percentage.
 
Recent History: The Mount and Western Connecticut have met in each of the last four seasons with each team earning a pair of victories. The Mount scored a 17-9 win in the most recent home game on February 28, 2018 with the Colonials earning a 12-8 win in Danbury in last season's matchup.
 
A Look At Emerson: The Lions begin their 2020 season on Wednesday with a home game against Wentworth. Emerson closed out the 2019 campaign with a 3-14 overall record and a 1-6 mark against NEWMAC rivals.
 
Recent History: Saturday's tilt will mark the first meeting between the two teams.
 
What's Next: The Knights continue the home stand next week when they play host to Vassar on March 3 and Albright on March 7.
