Newburgh, N.Y. – Earning a berth into the 2020 Skyline Conference Championship on the final day of the regular season, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team will return to Purchase to take on the second seeded Panthers on Tuesday in the Quarterfinal Round of the Skyline Conference Championship. Tip-off with the Panthers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with Live Stat and Video available for those who cannot attend.
At A Glance: The Mount, who topped Purchase 75-70 in the regular season finale, begins play in the Championship with a 9-16 overall record and earned the seventh seed. The Knights won their final three regular season games to earn their third straight appearance in the tournament.
Senior
Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) and junior
Jameson Morton (Woodstock, N.Y.) lead the scoring attack for the Mount with both players averaging in double-figures. Francis paces the Mount with nearly 18 points per game, ranking seventh in the conference in scoring, and has canned a team-high 57 three-pointers while also leading the team with 4.2 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Morton checks in with 10.7 points per outing and is shooting just over 42-percent from the floor.
Juniors
Ethan Fox (Wallingford, Conn.) and
Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) are both in the midst of strong all-around seasons for the Knights. Fox is good for 9.5 points per game and leads the team with 6.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game, while Sienke checks in with 9.4 points per game to go along with 4.4 rebounds per outing. Both players are efficient from the field, with Fox shooting 53.9-percent and Sienke converting at 53.3-percent.
Mount Saint Mary enters the Championship second in the league in scoring defense, allowing just under 69 points per game. The Knights are shooting 41.3-percent from the field overall on the season, 31.0-percent from three-point range and 64.3-percent from the free-throw line.
Last Time Out: The Mount traveled to Purchase on Saturday and earned a tough five-point victory over the Panthers. The Knights shot a season-high 56.5-percent overall in the game and converted at a season-high 55.6-percent from three-point range.
Morton scored at least 20 points in a game for the second straight outing, pouring in a season-high 22 points, going 7-for-11 from the floor with two triples and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Francis and Sienke each scored 13 points, with Francis handing out seven assists and Fox chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds.
Purchase, who shot just over 45-percent overall and went just 3-for-16 from three-point range, was led by 15 points from Elijah Lott.
Previewing The Panthers: Purchase dropped its last two regular season contests and enter the Championship as the second seed with a 16-9 overall record.
Purchase features four players scoring in double-figures on the season, led by 20.2 points from Elijah Lott. Lott ranks fourth in the conference in scoring and second in the league in assists with a team-high 6.2. Lott also paces the Panthers in rebounds with 8.6 per game and steals with nearly three per contest.
Jorge Perdome has canned 68 three-point field goals through the regular season and ranks sixth in the conference in three-point field goal percentage and is good for nearly 17 points per game. Maxx Miller nets 16.5 points per contest while shooting 54.1-percent from the floor and Elijah Harris checks in with nearly 11 points per game.
The Panthers are second in the conference in scoring, pouring in better than 82 points per game, but rank last in the conference in scoring defense, allowing nearly 77 points per contest. Purchase shoots 47.0-percent overall, 31.5-percent from three-point range and 74.3-percent from the free-throw line.
Regular Season Series: Each team won on the opponent's home floor in the regular season series, with Purchase scoring a 78-70 win at the Kaplan Center on January 18 and the Knights posting their five-point win on the road on Saturday.
Recent History: The Knights are 3-5 over the last eight meeting with the Panthers and have suffered losses in five of the last seven matchups. Saturday's win stopped a two game skid in the series and was the first for the Knights over the Panthers since December 11, 2018.
Recent Skyline Conference Championship History: The Knights have qualified for the Championship in each of the last three seasons, but have not won a game in the event since advancing to the Championship Final, a loss to Purchase, in 2014.
What's At Stake: The winner of Tuesday's quarterfinal will advance to the semifinal round on Thursday to take on the winner of the Manhattanville and Sarah Lawrence contest.
