Knights Host Sarah Lawrence, Travel To Purchase To Round Out Regular Season

Knights enter final week still alive for conference championship berth

Newburgh, N.Y. – With a berth into the 2020 Skyline Conference Championship still alive, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Basketball team closes out the regular season with a pair of important Skyline Conference North Division matchups. The Knights play host to Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday on Senior Night before closing the regular season slate at Purchase on Saturday afternoon.
 
At A Glance: The Knights snapped a three-game skid on Saturday with a 71-56 home win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy that bumped them to 7-16 overall on the season and to 5-9 in Skyline Conference play, just two games behind Sarah Lawrence with a head-to-head matchup remaining.
 
Senior Kendall Francis (Great Neck, N.Y.) continues to lead the team in scoring with 17.4 points per game and ranks eighth in the conference in scoring average entering the week. Francis also paces the Mount with 4.2 assists per game and 51 three-point field goals while adding just under two steals per contest.
 
A trio of juniors support the scoring attack for the Mount with Jameson Morton (Woodstock, N.Y.), Ethan Fox (Wallingford, Conn.) and Paul Sienke (Washington, D.C.) posting 9.6, 9.5 and 9.4 points per game, respectively. Fox is converting at 54.7-percent from the floor, with Sienke shooting 53.2-percent for the Knights. Fox leads the way with 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game, with senior Tristan Millett (Allentown, N.J.) contributing 2.1 steals, 2.7 assists and 3.7 points per game for the Knights.
 
Mount Saint Mary enters the week second in the conference in scoring defense, allowing 68.6 points per game. The Knights are scoring 63.8 points per game and are shooting 40.5-percent from the field overall, 29.2-percent from three-point range and 64.4-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Last Time Out: The Knights earned a 71-56 home win over USMMA in a game that saw them shoot a season-high 55.0-percent from both the field overall and from three-point range.
 
Francis led a trio of Knights in double-figures with 15 points, with Sienke adding 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Fox rounded out a strong day with 13 points six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots for the Knights.
 
Scouting Sarah Lawrence: The Gryphons come calling on Tuesday sporting an 11-12 overall record and a 7-7 mark in conference play following a convincing 62-45 win over Maritime on Saturday.
 
Omar Jamaleddine is in the midst of a big season for the Gryphons, leading the team with 21.0 points per game, 10.8 rebounds per contest, 2.9 assists per game and 1.9 steals per night. He shoots 42.1-percent from the floor overall for Sarah Lawrence.
 
Chris Torres leads the squad with 50 three-point field goals and is shooting better than 40-percent from long distance, while Enike Anyia is good for 17.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per outing, while shooting 63.3-percent from the field.
 
The Gryphons enter the week fourth in the conference in the scoring and third in field goal percentage. Sarah Lawrence is good for 76.0 points per game and is shooting 44.0-percent overall, 31.1-percent from three-point range and 69.6-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Recent History: The Knights hold an 8-3 record all-time against the Gryphons, but have dropped the last two meetings in the series, including a tight 63-61 decision in Bronxville on January 16.
 
Previewing Purchase: The Knights head to North Division leader Purchase to finish of the regular season with the Panthers entering a Tuesday tilt with USMMA sporting a 16-7 overall record and an 11-3 mark against Skyline Conference rivals.
 
Elijah Lott leads a balanced scoring attack for the Panthers, posting 20.7 points per game to go along with team-highs in assists (6.5), rebounds (9.0) and steals (2.8). Lott enters the week leading the conference in assists and ranks fourth in scoring, third in rebounding and third in steals.
 
Jorge Perdomo contributes 17.6 points per night and has knocked down a team-high 67 three-pointers, ranking fifth in the league in three-point field-goal percentage at 37.3. Maxx Miller adds 16.5 points per game for the Panthers and Elijah Harris chips in 10.8 points per game.
 
Purchase is second in the conference in scoring average, putting up better than 83 points per game. The Panthers are shooting 47.2-percent from the field overall, 32.7-percent from three-point range and 73.0-percent from the free-throw line.
 
Recent History: The Knights have dropped five of the last six meeting with the Panthers, including a 78-70 home loss on January 18.
 
What's Next: If the Knights qualify for the 2020 Skyline Conference Championship they will be in action on February 25 in a First Round matchup to be determined.
